    Gauntlet keypad Help needed!

    Hey all,

First, I'd like to share a lucky score; I got an original MQ-1, and for practically nothing. whee-hoo! However, my question is this: How exactly do I go about hacking the thing up? What's the best method for cutting the keypad off? Bobamaker? Anyone wanna take this? Thanks in advance.

I just cut mine with a Dremel cutting disk. I cut well outside of where I wanted the final line to be, then used a sanding block to smooth out the edge and get it to the right size.

The biggest warning is about taking it apart. The keys are not connected to anything. When you open it, they will fly free as little silver birds.

I know JK, as someone else mentioned before, its almost a shame to hack it up! Its pretty darn cool for 1978 technology! And smaller than I sort of assumed it would be. One thing someone also pointed out, be careful that the buttons dont all fall out when you take it apart. They can be put back in, but its a pain in the buttocks I'm told.

hah ha! Thanks STG, you responded faster than I type! I was thinking dremel cutting disc, but how do you insure a really crisp straight cut? Do you set up a guide or something?

Hey Brian, do you glue the buttons in then, or do they stay in place when you attach it to the gaunt???

I glued mine in. I placed all the buttons where they belonged, then spread a thin layer of goop over the whole thing.

Yeah, I read about the buttons falling out before, so I'll definately secure them good. Any thoughts on cutting with a guide, or some other way to keep it nice and clean.
