Gauntlet Hose Painting/Weathering

anyone have any pictures or tutorials on what they did to make their hoses look used? I've thought about leaving them in the sun for a while but I'm thinking that will take too long lol.

I bought braided hose from lowes so its clear as heck and it has stupid blue letters on it.

So I am guessing sanding it and maybe a little paint of some sort, so I am curious as to what colors people have used. from the searches I have done all I find about hoses is sizes and how to hook them up (which was awesome info, lol) but I cant seem to find anything about what to do to make them look decent.

How about leaving in the shower so soap scum builds up on it? he he!

lol. my shower stays relatively clean. my roommates shower though... hrm. not sure how I would explain that though.

"hey... I'm just gonna leave these hoses hanging here. s'cool right?"

"oh, yeah... but with clothes on..."


seriously though, they look kinda clearish in the pictures, but with a little yellowing. so I guess I'll try leaving them on the porch a while after sanding off the lettering. if that even works lol.

if not, maybe stuffing something with yellowish / brown paint on it through the tube to color the inside a bit... *shrug*

A technique normally used for Jango hose might work in your case too... get some RIT dye in the color of your choice and run it through the inside of the hose.

This should color the hose so that it looks less clear. The more dye you run through it, the more colored it'll get.

LOL! Yeah I agree with Ian on using RIT dye...it should do the trick!

that looks pretty good actually... is that liquid polish or the cake style in the tin?

Cake in the tin. It really sticks on there so I would rub heavier concentrations in some areas than others just to get a kind of mottled effect. But when you "buff" make sure to do it in each separate area or the color all kind of becomes the same and you get a uniform color rather than a true aged look.
