    Re: Gauntlet blueprints

I'm a little new to making things with sintra...so I was wondering what the difference was between that and corex. I was looking for sintra on a few sites on the internet and one had a sign made of corex that was pretty cheap = good for me.

SO...is corex the same thing? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

BTW, GREAT work on the templates so far and I know that they're going to make a LOT of lives a little bit easier when it comes to constructing those gauntlets!

    Re: Gauntlet blueprints

If you can find out if the sign is made from 'pvc foam board' or 'expanded pvc foam' then it is the same as Sintra. Sintra is a brand name only - there are several others that make the same stuff. The stuff I bought was called Komatex, which is just another brand name for the same stuff.

You could alway buy the sign and see if it forms well under heat. Sintra is not the only option. Others use garbage cans or storage containers, which are usually a poly proplyene or similar material.

Kash... I'm not completly up on 'corex' and couldn't say if it were the same as Sintra? But as Jedibrain suggested, 'Sintra' is only a brand name and is called 'Foamex' or 'Foamalux' here in the UK.
Kash, cheers for the comments... when you come to build yours i'll gladly answer any questions you have?

    Re: Gauntlet blueprints

IMO it doesn´t matter what name it has. Here in Germany it has again other names. Only be sure it´s capable to thermoplastic processing at "low" heat. The most here can be processed at 70 degrees Celsius.

The long wait is over, the Boba Fett Gauntlet templates are complete!!! They have been posted in the first post so that they don’t get lost in the thread.

I am head to Disneyland on the 5th so please be patient as I will be off line for the week and a half. I will get back to everyone that has questions once I get back.

    Enjoy!

WOW! You really don't know how much the templates you make mean to the users. It allows people like me, that can't spend hundreds of dollars on gauntlets, or helmets, or armor, to make it themselves. THANK YOU so much for all that you do. I can't wait to get started!

    Re: Gauntlet blueprints

    Hey Tazman...
The Rocket launch area is on sheet 1 (Rectangular section) it has many lines for scoring to enable bending. Or use what I did and use a section from a washing up bottle...
The other smaller section is missing and I kinda made that part up.. I think I kept the template I made somewhere, I'll dig it out and post.
Be good to see some pics buddy of your gaunt?

Soz... Yes it does i agree... but because it was more elliptical than round we kept it straight then trim to suit the radius?
By the way left gaunt looks very crisp!!

Soz buddy I meant that the radius at the ends were more elliptical? BUT you are right the way you have done it should work
Each builder will have their own way or method of achieving these omitted items...

    Re: Gauntlet blueprints

I've completed the MK2 version of the lower clamshells... and managed to un-stick my fingers!
After Alan and I chatted about some areas that needed some minor adjustments on thickness etc, the final set of templates were born...
I'm really happy with them - especially the way they form around the arms.
Next I'm gonna try and mould the lower left clam and add the upper section to the right...

WOW!! I’m gone a week and you guys go crazy! Looks like there are a number of great builds going on and even one in metal, very cool! great job guys. Can’t wait to see the finished projects.

Glad to see that folks likes them.

As for the rocket cradle I have to agree with MOJO-Fett this is one piece that is better off being a cut to fit part, but if folks insist I will make exact flat pattern. The other part is still in work, I didn’t want it hold up the release of the templates. It is also a part that should be easy to take some scrap and cut to fit. I have started a flat pattern for it, but just haven’t had the time to finish it.

    Re: Gauntlet blueprints

I finished this little puppy in about four hours today. I built it out of an old metal "Beware of Dog" sign and thin cardboard. The clamshells are shut with velcro and open with a hinge that is attached with brads, because the screws were WAY too long. I'll more pictures tomorrow after I spackle and paint it. And I just realized that I left that little box on the top off...so I'll have to do that.

    Wow!! Everyone's gauntlets look amazing!!! ~hides mess~

Ahem, so I have a question... Can someone post a picture of the back end of the left gauntlet? I cannot figure it out! Or find a picture... It has the strange little cut out, and...I'm not really sure what's going on. Any help would be awesome!!!! PM's work too.

I'll post a picture of the right gaunt as soon as its cleaned up and less embarrassing looking... lol It's sturdy though! I can through it at the wall without worry.

What technique are you guys using to shape your cuffs. The greeble parts of the gauntlets are no big deal, but I cant figure out the clam shell. I get curled ends, warping etc.

    Any pointers would be helpfull

Hiya, If you are using 1mm Sintra? try cutting the clam shell shape with the 'grain' running lengthways - YES it has a grain of sorts... this will enable you to warm it through in hot water (not boiling) and keep the curl/form without deforming the sides..

Hay mojo, i noticed one one of your clamshells you did a slice and dice job then wrapped it. Did you use sintra and not cut all the way through, and just use that as a nice controlled bend then bondo it?

That seems like it would be the way to go, as long as your patient wiht the scoring

Ok, I'm still a relative newb to the world of Fett but try as I might I can't determine if these WOF gauntlet blueprints are for the ROTJ or ESB version. Because I'm going to have to make the ROTJ gauntlets.

Someone care to enlighten me? Without the lynching,

    Thanks.

No worries, I just recently finished construction on my gauntlets using these patterns. All the parts are there in files if you want to do ESB or ROTJ.

Still have some work to do on them, but all in all they turned out pretty good. I'll try to get some better pictures

    Re: Gauntlet blueprints

bumping this back up... after shattering my fiberglass gauntlets pretty nicely, i decided to use these templates to build a replacement.

i've got the upper shell of the left gaunt almost done. i just have to do a bit more sanding to smooth out the bondo. it's looking great. these templates are very well done!!

i've taken a bunch of progress pics, but haven't pulled them off the camera yet. hopefully tonight i'll get them posted.

o.k. I have the blueprints, stencled, cut and so on. They look great so far thanks to your plans however I'm having difficulties with my abstract spacial reasoning... I can't seem to figure out the assembly of the gauntlet sleeves themselves. Any suggestions or directions would muchly appreciated

First off.. welcome aboard? maybe introduce yourself in the intro thread so that we know a little about ya etc...

Ok, you mean the lower clams?
If you look at post #124 you will see how I did mine - 2 layers of 1mm foamex (or Sintra for USA) glued together then at both ends of the clam you have an extra 1mm thick shim part that glues to the inner surface to give the impression of depth...

my progress has stalled as i change jobs, do some house work, etc... but there are some shots of how the pieces go together.

Sorry, didn't mean to be rude. Hi, I'm Arjae. I'm experienced with costume design but technologically challenged (be kind, I just got e-mail last week). I've been working on my custom beskar'gam for the past month and a half and after a few difficulties, it's finally turning out the way I wanted...except the gauntlet sleeves. Using 1/8"sintra and I don't know how this little puzzle works...left over pieces

this may be a very silly question, but are the upper and lower clamshells of the one piece or are the left as two pieces and attacehd by some sort of clasp.... i've used the WoF blueprints for my helmet which turned out amazing, and im excited to start on the guantlets but need this figured out before i start out... thanks so much

Hey guys. I'm working on my left gauntlet, and i found some parts that i'm not sure of where to put.
I think i found the wide ones just now, used inside the gauntlets. But the long thin ones in the pics is a mystery for me.
    Can anyone identify these???
    Thanks

    Hey bud,

The 2 curved parts are for the inside of the gauntlets, there should be 2 of each? the smaller ones are glued to the inner rim (around the wrist) these are to give the impression of thicker material...
The other 2 strips are I believe to be for the Flamethrower?

Hey there I'm new to the dented helmet and very excited about it! I just love your templates! I was having a heck of a time finding reference material and this is just such a great help I'm considering trashing the gauntlets I started cause the scale is kind of goofy! Thanks so much for your hard work!

I have all the parts cut out but no idea where to put them. From what you see in the photo above I am dead stuck on what goes where. Ive been stairing at these pieces for the last 2 hours trying to figure where they go. I have 2 days before the convention

    UPDATE:
I checked the original files and seems the gauntlets extend from one page to the next so they need to be taped together but **** that makes them freaking long!

    Re: Gauntlet blueprints

I'm by no means an expert, halfway thru my second construction using these templates. My guess is as follows:

The piece on the far left is the bottom of the flamethrower. I assumed the other 3 big pieces were more to show you how the flamethrower looks assembled. The two little squares are the front of those two flamethrower pieces.

The big pieces are pretty self explanitory, bottom clamshell for the the gauntlet... you know it wraps around your arm under the parts you've assembled. The wider strips underneath, go between the big pieces, which, when overlapped and curved, line up with some parts cut out of the outer one to form the indentations. The "u" shaped piece is a guide for how much to curve those two (the narrow end of the inner shell should line up perpendicular to this). I'm actually at a loss for the two thin strips, but maybe they go between the inner/outer shell too, longways? I've cut mine out of sintra, so didn't need the inner shell, just put "for-sale" sign material behind the cut-out parts of the outer shell.

    Hi,

I am new to the Dented helmet, but I have downloaded WOF's Boba Fett helmet templates and now his Gauntlet templates. Great work on the templates, well worth all the long hours and effort you put in to make a quality product to share with fellow builders.

I am looking forward to begin construction on my own Fett costume.
