I think we're doing pretty good. However, I should have mentioned that
if anyone here that has expressed interest wants on a specific run, without being listed in order, you will need to not only edit your post with what version you would like, but also with or without knees, trimmed or untrimmed, and approx which month you would like to be included. This will be much easier for me updating these lists. Again, I URGE you ALL to select the untrimmed discount !

Hey guys,

After much consideration, I've had to change the program half way into the ball game. It became very clear to me today, that I cannot offer a clean fully trimmed option at this time. There are a few good reasons for this, before anyone gets upset with me, please hear me out.

The $15.00 discount that I offered for accepting your order "Rough trimmed" was very unrealistic considering that this is what the charge would be to trim a set of 4 chest pieces alone. After spending most of the day in the shop trimming the first sets of armor, it became clear that if enough members don't take advantage of this "discount offer", I may not meet the deadline.

As I said before, it's not exactly about the money. Although I will be the first to say that time IS money, I'm going to have to nip this in the bud before we get too far into this. And I sincerely apologize. But the second reason is the most simple. A dremel, or rotary tool of another genere, only has so many productive hours. For a single member to trim a set of armor, takes a couple of hours at most. For me to do all sets of armor, and all sets of armor forthcoming, I will end up going through a couple of Dremels at very least. I killed one this afternoon. I'm sure that any of you that have been doing this for a while understand that those things don't last long anymore. Not like they used to. This can get costly. I have back-up's, of course. But when you get right down to it, the expense of having to replace expensive tools every couple of weeks is less than satisfactory. I know this may seem like an excuse, but it is very real. Granted, everytime you buy one from Home Depot lets say, you can return it within 30 days without question. But the harse reality is, I've sort of worn out my welcome with ours, becasue it happens on a regular basis

So, although "I am altering the deal" (geuss where that came from?) I'm intend to be fair. Again, I'm doing this early enough, that most of you may not care. But this is the way it will have to be, even on subsequent lists, if I'm going to be able to share these items with this much demand. So, in my promise to stay fair, there are two options now. With or without knees. Both options will be rough trimmed, and the price reflects the $15.00 discount for all of you. It is my hope that you understand. For those that may be less than satisfied with this sudden change in plan, I completely understand, and will not hold it against anyone if they would like to be removed from the list.

Just a quick note on prices qouted (shipped). It needs to be clarified
that those quoted are for U.S. shipments only. I thought I put that in my previous posts, but as it turns out, I boned it. My bad. However, most of you know, especially those that live abroad, that shipping to and from the U.S. can be more than double at times. So I hate to have to draw attention to this, but those that may have already made payment, may have to consider a few extra $$ for over seas shipments, unless what you've already submitted will cover Economy Parcel Post (snail mail 4-6 weeks) and you're good with that. It will be based on actual shipping to your neck of the woods (of course).

I can see your logic there. But this isn't really about discounts, as it may seem. The prices quoted for U.S. shipping, basically mean that I'm not charging for shipping within the U.S.

Where this may not seem fair to our over seas members, it really only means shipping can be more than double that of U.S. fees, AND there can be such a DRASTIC difference from country to country, that it would seriously complicate matters.

If this were about discounts, the only thing I can really say about that, is technically, our over seas members are getting more of a discount than our U.S. members - Pay-Pal fees. Please remember that I haven't added any additional to these prices, I am absorbing all Pay-Pal transaction fees. Case in point? I get charged more for international Pay-Pal transactions. It sort of all comes out in the wash, if you get my drift

As far as discounting international orders in the amount of what I would have charged for U.S. orders, you need to consider that even U.S. shipping isn't a flat fee from state to state, or zip code to zip code. What could cost $10.00 to ship to anytown Southern California from where I am, could cost $19.00 to ship to anytown North Dakota for the same exact thing. There would be no way to offer a discount that is fair, to both of us. I'm absorbing overages in these cases. The whole point of any of this, was to streamline things on my end, so that I wouldn't have to look up individual zip codes and give 10 different prices to 10 different individuals for shipping.

Please understand, this is not punishment for not living in the U.S. I just felt it only fair that it be the responsibility of the individual to cover international costs where applicable, because these costs do vary, across the board. I'm very sorry if you feel this is unfair. It's really the best I can do. But if you would like to be removed from the list, I completely understand.

Quickie Update ...

I will be posting some pics in a day or two (as soon as my website is moved to it's new host (some of you may have noticed it down). With my current host it's down more than not. I will be posting pics of the updated ESB Armor that was promised, as well as the new one piece vac knees. So no more knee assembly But, you'll need a heatgun

For those that ordered knees, if you're interested, I'll be offering a considerable discount on the rubber knees that are soon to come. Afterall, vac knees are vac knees. I don't care who makes them, they'll eventually break. It's just the way it is unfortuntately. Glass knees don't cut it either. Rubber is the only logical way for something that needs so much flex. It's been in the works for 2 years. So it's time

I will also be providing and hosting some tutorials on the trimming of these pieces. With the right pointers, the trimming will be a pleasant experience for each and every one of you, wether you've done it before or not So stay tuned for that. I'm working on them. Here are a couple of pics as promised.


First, there have ben a few members that wanted to know what "Rough Trimmed" looks like exactly. The following pic, is how members will receive their kits ... bad lighting, Not a great pic, but I think you can get the idea. "ESB" shown.




This next pic is to show what the ESB chest armor looks like. Again, same shape, with different dents.




The most notable change with the ESB version, is the right shoulder bell. To my knowledge, it hasnt been done before. So here it is, specific to you ESB gus



This next pic shows an little upgrade that everyone that has placed an order will receive. Not sure if this has been done yet. Center chest diamond with included metal insert. Movie accurate.






Also included with all orders, are accurate chest light slot visor material. Not shade 5 dark. Lighter, with a green tone. Each order includes one piece.

Hi guys, sorry for the delay in posting the tracking numbers.

I'll answer your questions first ...

The knees do NOT have dents in them, just as the assemble yourself version before them. Mainly becasue different movie versions would warrant too many molds. Being that they are vac formed, they're a very pleasant material to work with when making your own dents. I figured it best to leave it to the member and their particular needs. HOWEVER ... the rubber knees WILL have dents, and there will be ESB and ROTJ specific.

The center diamond is made of resin. Better material for backing with sheet metal. The metal can be screwed into the resin, or it can be epoxied. The vac formed version made it more difficult to keep the metal stuck

Not sure what the original chest diamonds were made of for sure, but it's a pretty good bet it was either vac formed (most reasonable) or perhaps even wood Not beyond the realm of possibility becasue a lot of greeblies and components were made of wood in the original movies. Vader's chest box buttons, tie fighter buttons, ect, ect. It's anyones guess until we can get a beter pic of one.

Vertical shaped dents can be made by heatgunning the plastic and then using a cylidrical shaped item (like a sharpie marker edge for the top dent in the left armor from your picture) to bend the plastic like you want to.

Here is how mine looks right before I trimmed the flashing off, WARNING NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART! I have filled the dents on the chest, cod, collar and one of the shoulders, and made new ones where they should be for Pre-pro. Nothing was wrong with the armor when it got to me but since pre-pro has different dents I had to do it. On with the pics.

A shape similar to that is on the reall armor though neither of these FP dents are 100% accurate. Its up to you really. No one is gonna call you out for tiny slightly inaccurate dent shapes on the glory that is the FP armor.

Here is one of a few that exist that shows the small flat basin inside the dent. Depending on the pic, the basin can look smaller and deeper (what mine was based on) and there are those like the one below that make the basin appear to be larger and more shallow. I'll dig for the pics that I used for my reference later when I have time if it's still an issue. But it's still interpretation based on reference pics. When basing sculpting on reference pics, there is no way to say for sure, what is, and what isn't 100% accurate unfortunately.

One especially has to consider this. The dents on the real armor were NOT vac formed into the armor. The dents were made later. This is why there are variances in dents between exhibits and movies. To vac form the dents into the armor to make it easier on the costume builder, means that it will never be 100 % accurate anyway. It's a short cut. However, making the vac molds in such a way that trick the eye into as close to an accurate appearance as possible is the best we can do as sculptors. But, it's cheating true 100 % accuracy. Taking into consideration that reference pics can vary, from exhibit to exhibit, and even from picture to picture, makes this job particularly difficult to please everyone which is why I split the difference I'm actually quite surprised that someone noticed that I even made the effort to put it in there ?

If any member is particularly bugged by it, and would rather go for the more shallow approach as pictured below, a finite amount of body filler will do the trick. If the consensus is that more would prefer the more shallow basin than not, I would be happy to incorporate that into the next batch on the next and subsequent runs.

I already knew that the dents were added by hand by a heated implement so thats why I said it was really up to the wearer whether he wants to go for the "shallow approach". No one is gonna care that your dents might look a tiny bit off the money. They look **** close!
But I'm still gonna try to go for the money.

I am planning on ordering 2 sets of chest armor with my full armor (if that's cool?) and then I will continue to play with the set I have.

Quick question for Webchief or anyone else who has owned both the v.1 an v.2 armors. I've read the v.2 has slightly larger chest armor and a skinnier codpiece, but is there any size difference in the other parts, such as collar or shoulder bells, or are the v.1 and v.2 sets of those exactly the same size?

Andy, I really couldn't tell you. While I've owned both V1 and V2 of the chest armor and cod piece, I'm still just using V1 of the shoulders and collar. Sorry!
