FP V.2 Interest Thread (FINALLY!) And FP Update

Hey guys and gals -

First off, thanks for hangin in there !

I've been going through some life changes recently. I've moved (sort of) and am awaiting internet access to be installed in the home I've moved into. It should be Thursday (was supposed to be today but the cable company confused the install time) so I got the short end So to all that I've been playing PM pr E-Mail tag with, this is why. I have been returning home everyday or so to hook up and communicate with those that have had business with me in the last couple of weeks. But by the end of next week, I'll be squared away. Just an update

Now to the topic. I'm ready to let the V.2 out the door if anyone is interested. To make sure that everyone that may be interested has a chance at getting in on this, I've considered a couple of solutions...

Solution one is doing a monthly run with up to 10 slots (perhaps more if necessary). This thread will give me an idea of how to proceed with that. Doing it this way would give me time for production/re-order of materials, and time to members that may need to make arrangements for themselves. It also gives realistic expectations to each member for transit and delivery. As well as an opportunity for newer members that come aboard every month. Basically, every month on a specific day, I can start a new list for anyone that didn't fit into the first, and so on. Each member will be notified when their armor is ready for shipment. Payments will be expected at that time. If you would rather pre-pay, that is fine, but it is not necessary. Every member will receive their armor at the end of the month before the next round commences.

Solution 2 isn't original at all. Rolling interest, or simply first come, first serve. This will be by PM only. With this method, I will only make armor to order. Payment will be expected up front. This is only because it is private, and it ensures that the sale is locked. I've never worked this way before, but there have been issues as of late that I'd rather not deal with again. The downside to this solution, ( it's the standard traditional way everyone does it of course) is the producer can get behind schedule, and there is no order to speak of. Members can feel like they're not being treated fairly

I'm going to leave this decision to you. The members. You're the backbone of this board. And I'm here to serve. If there is not enough interest, then the obvious choice will be first come, first serve. So cast your vote here. We'll tally in a couple of days (I will be ordering plastic Monday). If a list is what the board decides, it will be made at that time

Information :

Full Set Vac Formed Armor (Chest, diamond, Collar, Cod, Shoulders, Backplate, and Kidney/Butt Plate) rough trimmed. All pieces besides the backplate are made with .90 thickness styrene. The backplates are done in 1/8 thick for durability (This is NEW). Styrene has gone up in price a little bit. But I'm not charging anymore than I have in the past. With the exception of the thicker styrene for the backplates.

Full (ESB or ROTJ) without knees rough trimmed - $220

Full (ESB or ROTJ) with knees rough trimmed - $255
(knees only produced by request only - at a small additional charge)

This is of course U.S. shipment only. Anywhere else will be based on a case by case basis. I'm sure you understand, as shipping is sometimes double abroad.

Definitely count me in for a set. I dont know if im elligable for a set though, as my emails and PMs to you have gone unreplied to for the past 2 years. I never completed my first set of FP armor because another board member lost my collar plate when he borrowed it and I never could beg hard enough to get a back plate, but this new offer solves all of that for me. I'm willing to toss the original set of FP armor that I have if I can get the new armor this round. To this day I don't know why I was ignored before. I hope I never did something to offend you.
The new armor looks spot on. I've always wanted to do a Fett costume and ironically it was the first costume I ever started, five years ago. I never got past about 50% of building it. I'm dying to actually have a fett costume to wear. The new pieces look outstanding.


PS- I forgot to mention I'd go for either solution. I think 2 is a good solution and it protects you very well.

It's too easy for a request to slip by in one's PM box, especially if you get alot of them. This way you'll know who wants what. And everyone will know when theirs is ready to ship, so that's good!

I say choose whatever option you feel most comfortable with and one that will not cause too much stress on you though I personally think option 1 seems to be the easiest and the plan with the least amount of possible troubles. Oh and please count me in for a full set with knees because I've been burning a gigantic hole in my pockets for months.

I like the sound of the first option. Monthly lists sounds like a reasonable idea. Buyers have time to add funds and as you stated you get time to plan for production. Sounds very organized.

Either way I would like to be on the list for the next run. I'm doing an ESB Fett and your quality and pricing look fantastic. Webchief is my CO and his endorsement is more than enough to sell me. When you make your list please put me on it.

Well, I also must admit that I would prefer method one, and my main reason is that I'm having very hard days at work, and many economic problems, so, if with this method, I KNOW FOR SURE that I can wait 1 month, or maybe 2, and I still have the possibility FOR SURE to get the armor, that would be amazing for me !!! but in any case, if that wuoldnt be possible, take for sure that I would "rent my body" if necessary but I must own a FP v2 full armor

In any case, is your choise !!!

P.S. would be nice to hear about the butt piece and gauntlets :$:$:$

Hi FP,
Would it be possible to post the measurment of the "inside" opening of the collar/backplate? I mean where your head goes thru.
I have a set of armor now that was made by another maunfacturer, and I have the collar and backplate semi-permanently attached, and it's pretty tight getting my big noggin thru the opening.
Also, have you considered taking 'a la carte' orders for certain pieces?
Just wondering.

As for method of distribution I think either one would be fair. If I had to pic one I'd say option 1, the monthly list, because I really like knowing the progress of my items and when they are being shipped.

Thanks for all the votes so far. Seems pretty unanimous for option #1 so far.
It is actually best for everyone when you get right down to it. I'll continue to watch this thread until tomorrow afternoon, in case anyone else finds there way here with any other constructive comments or criticisms before making a decision.

Animatronic - not in great taste bro, but it's all good. Everyone is welcome.

To answer a few questions :

The butt plate WILL be included. My bad for not listing that, sorry. I forget about it sometimes because it's not vac formed like everything else. It's a "cookie cutter" approach on that piece - trimmed from a straight sheet of styrene. But it is included.

As far as the term of availability goes ... even if there is a month that I break from armor to do a run of something else that has been in demand, like gauntlets for instance, this would only be temporary. As long as there is demand, I will continue to make these available to the members here at TDH, with whichever method is chosen.

In my first post, I neglected to add that I have also decided that from this point forth, any Fett related parts that I share will be exclusive to TDH.

This forum has grown to be "THE" foremost source of information for anything Fett over the years. Thanks to our board owner, the hard work of the Administration as a whole, and the dedication of our members. There have been many ups, and many downs over the years, but at the end of the day, when all is said and done ... everyone interested in Fett costuming eventually finds their way here. There is a lot to be said about that. We've all grown over the years with the forum, myself included. There is no better way that I know to pay tribute to this than to offer this exclusivity.

I only ask for a couple of small things in return -

First and foremost, I ask that you respect all the guidelines here at TDH of course, but more specifically, recasting - the more we keep this under control, the more talent we will draw to this board that will be willing to share.

Secondly, keep making the forum look great with your amazing individual and collective talents. The best dressed in star wars costuming, start at TDH.

Yeah, but the chest is shaped like ESB armor and problably was once. I think FP said he was going on both the AOSW exhibit and ESB pictures to make the ESB chest set as there has been no true (no repaint) ESB armor seen since the 80's.

And there really isnt too much of a difference in the end. Its all sweet.

BTW guys, don't take my words on this thread as an attack on FP. He's a good guy. I probably did something in the past to tick him off, don't know. I just stopped hearing back from him and there's probably a good explanation for it. I'll be picking up a set of his armor either way. I'd have finished my fett years ago if I could accept a substitute. His stuff is just the best, that's all there is to it. Thanks for everything Chris!

Thanks again everyone. So it looks like the community has spoken. We'll go for option #1. Monthly list. We'll call the availability indefinite at this point. To be more specific, when there is a lul in demand, I can move on to other components for the community. So we'll just take that as it goes.

Materials were ordered today. Minor complication. Plastic, is a commodity. I've sort of explained this before. Prices change (go up) sometimes weekly/daily. I was able to get a shipment at an older rate because of a little stock they had left in another warehouse. So I'll be able to match what I've quoted for this round. I'll ride the material prices for what they are right now. If they go up a bit on subsequent lists, I'll absorb the cost as long as I can to be fair with what I've quoted. However, if it goes up too much over the next few months, we'll have to meet in the middle. That will mean one of two things. Either the price goes up a couple of buck, or a member can waive "trimming" to offset my time a little. In fact, anyone willing to do that for the first 2 lists will get a $15.00 discount. They will still be rough trimmed. It will be up to you. I don't want to complicate things too much, but I want to be fair nevertheless. And quite frankly, the trimming, although a little time intense, is really VERY easy. So I would encourage taking the discount, if oyu know what I mean. It's much easier for each individual, than it is for one guy to do it all, hence the discount that would be offered. Again, not trying to complicate things, but it's an option for you.

Otherwise, we're all good. Being that it's Jan 24th already, I think it would be best to start the first official list as of Feb. 1. That way we'll start on track. Now, before you flog me for ANOTHER couple of weeks wait, let me explain During the next two weeks, I will start the first 10 set and have them nearly ready for the first list. Those members will have little to NO wait. Where this may not seem fair, it's really the only way we can start this program with an "On Schedule" approach. So please don't misunderstand when it happens so fast the first time, but not as fast with subsequent lists. Each list after will be "Within 30 days" transit/delivery.

Q quick note about the PM's that have been received in the last week. My apologies for not responding. I'm still without full-time internet access until tomorrow afternoon (As explained above with my recent move). But please understand too, that the primary reason for starting this thread was to work out a program for this that would not require PM's. The reason for this is to reduce the risk of me not being able to respond to everyone individually in a timely fashion. I really feel bad when I can't. This leads to misunderstandings, and ill feelings. By going with option #1, we can keep these misunderstandings to a minimum, and you won't have to think FP isn't listening It's much easier to address this program "once" within a thread, rather than to have to send very impersonal "canned" responses to multiple members. Even with pre written responses, it's still very time consuming. And when I'm stuck in the PM box, I'm NOT out in the shop taking care of you guys (and gals) So please keep the PM's to a minimum regarding FP V.2 please, unless you have special circumstances. I can address most inquiries here, in this very thread

To answer a couple of questions:

You will have your choice of ESB or ROTJ. The differences are VERY minor. Primarily dent placement on one plate (chest) and one (shoulder bell). I've yet to take pics of the additional updated pieces. Only because I haven't had time to perfectly trim a set of those yet. If you guys can live with it, I'll post an untrimmed set so you can see the differences. But the general shape and size is exactly the same between both ROTJ and ESB.

Materials arrived yesterday. But I had a very small reserve that I could work with to get it all started. So this is gonna go pretty quick. If I can get this accomplished in a timely fashion, we may be able to fit a second run into this month. Lets get this party started

I saw the price of $235.00 but I don't think that included the knees. Do we have a rough estimate of the cost with Knees? I know the price may vary a little from month to month due to the cost of materials, so it won't be taken as set in stone.
