    First try at armor

So I had cut out some from the WOF templates and just let them sit for a while. I got bored yesterday and started messing with them. I know they need alot more work but this is the start of my scratch built armor. At first I had them as single sheets but it looks so cheesy whenever I see someones armor that is so thin. it has no shape or depth. so I added another layer to it and rounded the edges. I added some battle damage but need a little work on that also. Any feedback would be great. I'm new to making any of this.

    That looks nice!
The schoulders need to be a bit more round ( they look a little ''blocky'' in the pictures if you know what I mean

I think the thickness was either .060. but it might have been .080

Looks awesome, the curvature of the chest plates is perfect from what I can tell. But like DutchFett said the shoulders look a little weird, maybe its just a trick of the camera, idk.

One suggestion tho. The center diamond: (Someone please correct me if I am wrong in saying this) Ought to be thinner on the inside, right? The rectangular indentation should be lower than the rest of the diamond. I think I've got that right, but see what other people have to say as I'm not 100% sure.

Overall, great start, cant wait to see the rest of the dents once you've started painting.

yea I was looking at that alot. I cut out the center and put another layer on the back so it's got thickness and the recessed center. I'll post it when I'm done sanding and evening it out.

Heres a really bad picture of the diamond now. I had to take it with my phone camera.

Very nice job at the armour! The shape is awesome, and I love how it's double layered.

So I've done a little more on the armor. here's some pictures. I know it's not 100% accurate but it's my first try.

    Re: First try at armor

thank you. the back is going to be a pain and same with the cod. it never looks right if it's scratch built. anyone know a good way to use bondo with styrene and if it's solid enough if you use it?

    Re: First try at armor

I used a combination of styrene, sintra, and super glue, with fiberglass resin to make my knee armor. It worked really well. For the back armor you could try what I did for mine and make a mold of your torso with duct tape to shape it.

That's looking good. Filling in the seams with bondo will help bring the pieces together. You could use spot putty or something like that too. Superjedi's build and paint threads show it.

Looks good. Be sure to test fit the parts on your body as well before painting because you will often find that while the curves and scale look good to the eye, they may not be right for your body type.

    Re: First try at armor

    Update.

So after really messing with this set I've decided this is my practice armor. next set I make is going to be made out of one thicker piece of styrene. The glue warped the plastic so it wasn't really pleasing me. I'd rather have something more solid and not worry about it coming apart. so I painted what I had finished for some practice. I know it's not accurate but it helped to understand how things work. all rattlecans.

The chest is looking really good!

The dents should be different sizes. The upper dent should remain small. The lower dent should be a shallow 'thumb' impression with a deeper, smaller dent off-center. In other words keep the dents where they are, but make a shallow 'thumb' impression over the lower dent.
