I finally got one! I'm a wee bit excited right now, and had to share this!
Never thought I would find one of these. It's almost a shame that I'm going to tear it apart.![]()

Never thought I would find one of these. It's almost a shame that I'm going to tear it apart.![]()
Where did you find it?![]()
Ebay... I don't know if I paid too much for it, but when I saw it was posted, I offered the guy $100.00 for it. He added the "buy it now" for that amount, and I bought it. To me it was well worth it, considering I have not seen one listed in well over a year and a half, and I had been goin' nuts trying to get one to add the parts to my suit.
Awesome find!![]()
sweet!
considering it works too! great find
Have you considered molding the relevant part instead of tearing it apart?
A good first-generation casting of that keypad would be nearly indistinguishable from the real part on a finished gauntlet.
Mark
If you cast it, you could do what I did. I cast the keypad and the buttons separability.
I'd be willing to cast it for you or talk you though the process if you want to try it yourself.
Asok- do you have any castings from yours available?
Mark
Mark,
I will need to look. Casting the buttons is a pain. Even when I power the mold, I can only get about 1/3 of the buttons to come out right. Also, I did not cut mine up. So the cast of the main body is the whole front section. That way it can be trimmed to the gauntlet.
I never thought about casting it. I have only ever built and painted, and honestly have no real exposure to casting.
If it is something that could be done, and I wouldn't step on any toes in doing it, I would be more than glad to give it a try.
Thanks Asok!
And thanks DAZ for the tip!![]()
Do you want me to mold/cast it?
Mark
Thats like asking me to send off my newborn child!JK!! (and I don't have any newborn children..
)
Seriously though, it would be hard for me to send this out. I really do appreciate the offer, but if this is gonna happen, I wouldn't mind trying it myself. Any help you guys could offer would be great!!And beleive me, I don't mind asking questions about "how to do" things.
One of these years I'll find one. Good deal and nice find.
Nice find!
If you like, I'll take the unneccesary bits off your hands for you.
Like the keypad and the circuit board. Those are just junk and you'll probably toss them anyway.![]()
nice! so are you going to cut it up and put it on your gauntlet?
it really does have a nice look to it. but be REALLY careful tearing it up.. i almost lost a button from mine!
Awesome find, Darryl! And I agree ... it's going to be sad to dismantle it.![]()
Yeah, why cast it? I mean... there are honestly TONS of casts of these things already out there. If you cared enough about the real part to shell out the $100 for a tiny, tiny piece then I say stick the real job on there and enjoy it!![]()
Hm... after you cast it, you could always put it back together and see if it still works. Just desolder the connections to the circuit board instead of just cutting them. Because of how you would make the molds, it's possible that the board wouldn't be damaged.
Just to wrap this up, I took the advice of those who said to just add the piece, and I'm not regretting it! Thanks guys!
![]()
Hey that came out great!
Now you can figure out sales tax and stuff while you're hunting the scum of the galaxy!![]()
You got a good deal on that! It looks fantastic.
that looks great! well worth it!
Very impressive, Darryl!![]()

Hello, I'm from Italy. I don't know if you can be interested in.
But I'm going to sell (30-3-2008 for 10 days) on e-bay 2 calculators related to this Star Wars costume. CASIO MQ-1. I ship Worldwide.
Try to search the item number 280213504687 or search CASIO mq-1
For informations write to: pguagliumi@libero.it
I don't want and I'm not going to make a BUY NOW offer. This is an eBay auction and I want this continue to be.
I've got 2 item (2 casio mq-1) to offer.
Best regards from Italy.
I hope this guy is LEGIT seeing it's only his 1st post here.![]()
There is another guy on Ebay right now trying to sell one for $400.00!!
GOOD LUCK Getting that price!!![]()
Yeah, I saw that too. It's probably the same guy who won it on auction about a week ago for $100. Funny how one was for auction, sold for $100 and then another comes up for auction a few days later for $400. Perhaps it's just coincidence..................but I really don't believe in coincidence.
Resin > $400. That's the way I feel about it.
Why I shouldn't be legit? Does LEGIT mean legitimate? I don't speak english very well, I'm sorry. I'm from Italy, I searched in Google "Casio mq 1" and I found this place where some of you are interested in this calculator. So I simply put a message about the calculator I sell.
Here is the calculator auction
The ebay item is number: 280213504687.
I simply changed home where I live, so I want to sell some things I own.
Best regards from Italy (Turin - Winter Olympics 2006).

Hmm. Maybe it's time to bail out.
-Morten-
so the high bid is up to $157 for each of the mq-1's that means one bidder raised all bidders because he placed a bid for both calculators! so the last one that went for $100 was rather a "bargain". I don't see why anyone would pay that much for this. But hey, if it makes you happy.
i totally agree with you. if it's the one piece you're missing and it makes you happy, go for it.
but here i see one guy bidding on both at $157 each, so if he'd win, he would pay close to $320 for 2 calculators. and one of the other bidders has placed a bid of over $157 as his first bid. looks kinda fishy to me.
could be... i haven't ever bid on an auction with more than one available, so i've no clue how the logistics goes there.
here's hoping it's legit, and someone good gets em!
so someone bought both for a total of $628![]()
I'm the seller of the two Casio. I didn't think they could be so precious. I didn't artificially rise the price. The auction ended with 400euros. I send them. I hope they will arrive soon.
I'm a serious person! Here is my home page http://saw.altervista.org
My name is Paolo Guagliumi. The auction on ebay is ended.
I don't have other calculators. My mother was a secretary and her chief bought her those calculators in '70s.
That's all!
It wasn't FISHY! Forgive for my english, I'm from north of Italy, I live in Turin.
I received the payment. I thank the person who win my eBay auction. I already sent the calculators. I'm waiting for his ebay feedback. I will refund him for 20euros he gave me too much for sending the item. I wrote him, he didn't answer to me. I hope he will respond me soon.

The MQ1 looks great on the gauntlet. Congrats on the score.
Greetings One & All !
I have an AWESOME Casio MQ-1 I would sell !
I joined "The Dented Helmet" today and await their approval to send/receive posts. I thought I would give you guys the "heads-up" for this unit.
I have the calculator, the cover for it, the manual and the original box, with the $59.95 sales sticker still on it from 1977. It is mine. Dad bought it for me back in 1977 and I used it sparingly, at best. If interested, E-mail me and I will send you pix off- list. (MNGesq@aol.com)

hello dear star wars fans :thumbup
i just have registered to let you know that i have a CASIO MQ-1 for sale on ebay. the link is:
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...MESE:IT&ih=010
please take care,
kind regards,
marsl...
it's getting ridiculous how many people are registering just to sell the mq 1. I hope whoever gets these doesn't get scammed. just strange how many pop up all at once. also I'm not too hot on how decimal comma's work. 10,50 would be how much? 10.50? or 1,050? sorry I'm confused?
it was the same dude that dug up the four mq-1 threads and posted the same thing in each of them. and euros are weird with the comma.
