ESB Gauntlet / Flamer

Anyone got advice for makin the Flamer for an ESB Gauntlet.
the one that came with my gauntlets is Resin and ultimately not great in the way it's put together - it's kinda fragile - and I'm thinkin of makin it from scratch.
Any hints on where to start off?

I used most of the resin one, but replaced the rods by drilling out the individual pieces and putting wooden rods inplace...
