    dsonik1's SE armor paint-up....

Okay, as some of you know, I got ahold of the famed 1 off mystery armor. It's 4mm thick heavy gauge aluminum. A special "Thank you" to Graham and Terry, you guys are the best.

After some procrastination and trepidation, I finally decided to "man up" and get started on making this stuff wearable. I first started a couple of weeks ago by bending and reshaping the armor so that the contours were correct and it would sit on a vest properly. I did it, by hand, using a couple of different vices on display at Harbor Freight (Thank you floor people).

Then, yesterday evening, I began masking (toothpaste, Thanks Mike!) and paint on the shoulder bells and I used a dremel and metal cutting disc to cut the display slots in the left chest piece. This morning, I finished laying the final yellow on the shoulders and applied the decal, whilst also getting started on the rest of the armor. At this point, I have laid the yellow undercoat, and am fixing to lay the green on the armor. Once that is done, I will be misting all of the parts with ultra-flat spray and adding the "grease mark" to the shoulder bell.

    Paints used:

Shoulders = Testors flat light aircraft grey / Krylon bauhaus gold

Armor = Rust-oleum American Accents summer squash / Testors medium green

Here's my WIP so far... (any criticism is welcomed

BTW, how heavy are the plates? Also, you coundn't show the edges of the armour, am curious on what the thickness is like?

Another question, how sturdy are the plates? Is there any degree of flex in them?

In order to bend the right concave, I had to use a heavy duty vice and my body weight, if that gives you an idea. They are insanely sturdy. I will try and get a pick from the sides, but it may be harder to see, since I just finished laying on the green.

Everything is done except for the addition of a "Family emblem", chest display lense (which I installed tonight), and the clear-coat.

    So how'd I do?

    hi mate,
    I have PM'd, loads.
The trade was done in Mar and i sent the armour in good faith to receive a belt.
I appreciate the wait for sizes but last I heard was july with a hope by the end of the month, no news since and its been 6 months now, would just like to know where its going.
Glad he likes the armour and its been done very well, as you can see I have been waiting a long time as the armour is nearly finished now,

    Re: dsonik1's SE armor paint-up....

    Big size
I only have a 34" waist, not large and I was advised a "40 to cover the armour, measured its approx "38.
    Is this classed as large.
I didn't think a boba could be much slimmer with armour so how small is small

    Re: dsonik1's SE armor paint-up....

    I had gotten a 34 incher bud...40 is a larger size I believe I have a 30" waist...

I gave him a call about this for you his dads visiting and he hasnt had time to get on but he said still waiting on that and other sizes to come in to him from horselovers....the manufacturer isnt making the mohair girths as much cause theyre obsolete pretty much synthetic is the way to go for people nowadays, hes doing his best I know that for sure and youll be pleased with the belt for sure

    Thanks guys,
Never meant to be funny or to seem rude, I don't like to post about other people unless as a last resort and when I saw my old armour I thought I had been forgot, so glad you all have took it in the right way.
Armour looks fab as I said and thought I may have been forgotten ;-)

    Graham,

I completely understand, mate. I promise, you've not been forgotten. This is the first time I've even been on a comp in days. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a happy family occasion, has become watching the last bit of family I have left completely fall apart.

So, I've been a bit pre-occupied with that. Gunna be hittin ya with a pm shortly.
