Can anyone tell me about blackwash
Can anyone tell me about blackwash? I thined out some dark paint with blending gel and applied it to my gauntlets and jet pack to tone down the newness of the paint job. Do I wipe it off and how long do I wait? Detailed instructions would be great. Thanks.
Re: Can anyone tell me about blackwash
Black wash can be a little tricky sometimes, and there are a few different methods for applying it. One is to mix your paint with a fast drying liquid ( such as window cleaner )
put it in a spray bottle and apply.Because of its thinned down form the paint should pool in the lower part off subject ( gauntlets, jet pack or other prop ). This method can be great to weather all the nooks and crannies, as well as giving a light coating on the raised parts. You shouldn't need to wipe, in fact I myself wouldn't. Its best to blot at the area with a scrunched piece of tissue or paper. As you blot the paper will lift the paint and break up the newly applied paint. ( Don't wait to long to blot. Once the paint is dry it wont come off ) Remember it is always best to apply weathering in stages. A few light coats is easier to control than one thick coat.
Good luck on your weather, Hope this helped. There are some great tutorials on TDH, do a search and you should find heaps more.

I was just going over the jp when you were texting. I will try the method you described. It seems to be going good. Thank you for your help.
Re: Can anyone tell me about blackwash
I put a little black plastic paint (from a craft store) in windshield fluid and ragged it on. I would wipe it on heavy, then wipe it off. On and off, over and over again. That let me make some areas darker than others and turned out pretty nice.

I just finished the paint job on my second set of armor and I'm going to try the window cleaner method. My JP and Gauntlets turned out good. Thanks.

Here's my favorite technique so far; http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f22/set-stun-24500/
Be sure to practice a few times on random pieces before you apply this method to your jet pack or gauntlets.
But like FettWho said, try several light layers and build the whole thing up over a period of time.
