well, it has been awhile since i have posted any progress on the armor, so here are some pics of what i have been working on...i know the yellow is a little bright, i havent had a chance to steelwool the areas and put the matte coat on, but you get the idea...:) thanks for looking!!

That is so amazing brother!!!
G-Fett
thanks guys! appreciate your kind words...keeps me going, for sure! :)
looking good so far. hopefully a wash of black misty paint will tone it down some. looks like Fett dropped a mustardy hotdog on himself lol. I would imagine it would tone down with the black mist quite a bit. Not sure if Matte alone would change the overall color, just the glossiness.
Great updates D... I think you have done an awesome job bro!
I personally don't use washes? I never tried the whole window cleaner and paint mix thing...
What I did but obviously I used an airbrush, was to mix/thin some grimy black heavily then mist all over the armour from about 12" away and it really toned down the yellow.
any time i've ever used a wash, it was just mixed with water. never heard of using window cleaner. I rattlecan'd my whole set, i just stood really far back and lightly sprayed black all over it. misted it. then wiped with a lightly damp cloth in some places and a dry one in others.
Darell, where did you get your fine grade steel wool? I have been looking for it for a long long time now and I cannot seem to find it anywhere except online.
Armor looks great man!!! All those years in Home Ec and Art class are paying off!
:lol:lol:lol:lol
that does look amazing, keep up the good work!!
I agree with the others, if you wanna tone down the yellow a mist layer will work perfectly... I' ve never used an air brush though... simple spray paint cans work just as well for me... that is probably untill I get my hands on an air brush... :P
The armor looks good. I can't say it is worth the money...because I have always been cheap. The paint looks really good, I need to learn how to do the battle damage, I've never been good at it. What do you use to do the silver?
i just use Testor's silver, topically...:) and eyeball where the damage is using reference pictures...:thumbsup
Armor looks great man!
That looks wonderful! If only the funds were available...
I have done custom weathering and damage painting for year on planes and such. I can say with total confidance that you are doing a top notch job. your armor looks great. I hope when i finally get home to start painting mine, that it looks that true to ESB keep up the great work
looks good:thumbsup
That is Sweet!!!:thumbsup:fettpre:thumbsup
Man.. you are almost done ^_^ top quality work
Looking good!
Wow, that is some incredible work. I can't wait to see the finished product.
Looks awesome, I cant wait to get mine:D
Bobamaker is the way to go for any peice. I'll be getting my fully pinted helmet in March! :D
That armor is totally awesome. I'm jealous. Heh, with any luck, I'll buy myself some bobamaker armor next year, if I'm not still tired and poor by then.
I have really enjoyed this thread. Amazing armor = very nice paint job. A very inspiring thread.
Nice paint job! Talk about jeleous! I cant wait for the day i can open that box and get to work on my own...
Very nice indeed:fettesb
ok, been awhile since i posted any progress on my armor, so i thought i would share what has been going on! i have been studying Mojo's FP paintup thread, and his right shoulder paint job is phenomenall!! i really cant replicate that damage he has done, since i dont have an airbrush, so i tried to use the rattlecan to get that effect, and that didnt work very well, so, i was putting in an extra dent up near the main dent using a lighter to heat up the fiberglass, and then press where i wanted the indention to go...now, i have BM armor, and this shoulder didnt come with the large dent in it, mainly cause i think that it was made ROTJ, but that is ok! :) i took a dremmel and carved out a dent on my own, i think it is ok...:rolleyes anyway, i noticed i could scortch the paint using the lighter, and tried around the edges of some of the dents, and wow, it worked really nicely i think...:thumbsup so here are some pics of my version of the famed ESB right shoulder dent, and others, so let me know what you guys think...:) i still have some detailing to do, but i wanted to wait on your opinions before i continued on...:thumbsup

Looks great man! I told ya the dremmel would work!
I think it looks great, but if you want more fading around the burnt edges, and if you dont have an airbrush, you can grind down some charcoal powder, and just either use your fingers or a brush and add the powder on to the edges until you get a desired fade. After that, seal it up with dullcoat, and you are good to go. But the color, dent, etc, all look great!
Man, that looks GREAT, D! I'm anxious to see it all put together :cheering!
thanks fellas! i appreciate the feeback and suggestions...i have to detail it a little more around the edges to get a more blending effect, just have to go to the hobby store to get the right color....i have the zinc chromate, but it is just too yellow for this, so i need a more orangish color to do the blending...thanks again! we are getting there! :o
Like what ya done with the shoulder big D! very nice mod... :thumbsup
thanks, Gav, appreciate ya brother! now, here are some more pics of the right shoulder with more of the detail added...i used some charcoal as suggested earlier, and man, i love this stuff!! not the same effect of an airbrush, but what an alternative to be able to confine the scortch marks! let me know what you guys think...:)

Great job! It looks awesome. maybe a little more of the charcoal flashes? Can we see a pic of the entire shoulder piece, so we can soak it all in? I love using my dremmel tools...
Looks great brother!
You're doing a great job dude! Can't wait to see the whole thing finished!):cheers
thanks guys, appreciate the input! helps me keep going!
Nice work darrell ,keep up the good work :)
Looing sick, bruv! Great work, really nice job!
Wow, very nice work. The detail is coming along great!

Lookin good dude!
Looks great D!
I like the technique you used for the blast marks. Do you plan to add any weathering to the inside metallic portions?
Sweet! Looking great. You did a really good job on the charcoal flashes. How did you apply it? Do you think airbrushing would be easier, or did you method work well? Does it rub off easily? or do you have to go over it with a clear coat or something?
thanks, D!! i just used a paintbrush, medium sized, and rubbed it in, and it stays pretty well...ya, if i use a wet towel or something it will come off, but a clear sealer will lock it in nicely!! never used an airbrush, so i would say this charcoal method is easier....:doh :lol i dont know, i would use the airbrush if you have one, i would...:D
plus, i have to save my money for MOJO's new sidearm, and cant afford an airbrush at the moment...:b besides, if i got an airbrush, i would HAVE to start all over again, and that means certain pain from someone i live with and has to deal with me...:lol
I didnt catch what kind of charcoal it is? Is it like one of those 4 inch square charcoal pencils crushed up or?
just wow darrell ,can you paint my BM armour when it comes :lol
again very nice work buddie :cheering
Bump. Whats up brother. any more progress on the armor? Im still curious about the charcoal that you used....
bobamaker stuff is awesome to own
ok, some updates on the armor progress...i have done the chest and ab plates with the female parts of the snaps...i decided to go this method cause that was the method most have used...:thumbsup next will be to get the male parts onto the vest...:doh wish me luck!!! :lol i have to get these snaps on the diamond, shoulders, and knees...not sure if i am going to do snaps on the collar yet, it seems to set nicely around my neck once bolted into the backplate, so we'll see...:)
Attachment 30742

Not long to go big D.... :D
I'd go snaps on the collar as the JP would have a tendency to 'pull' the collar back?
gotcha, master! ;) makes perfect sense...i wouldve figured that out the first time i put the jp on with the other stuff...ya...:doh :lol:lol love to hear from ya, brother!!
Hey D, mind you what with your harness... you may only need a single snap in the front to stop it rising?
I dunno how this thing sits or holds weight, but you may get away with it?
I may not put snaps on the collar. The jet pack may pull the snaps apart. The best thing to do would be to test it out without and see if you need them. Easier to add them than to remove them! :cheers
hmm...i can try one right in the point of the front...and see how it works, then put 2, one on each side, and see how that works...
I haven't come that far, so I have no experience, but I would say if you have it, try it on quick. That would be the fastest way to see what it does, and how it sits. Then mark it up from there if you need to, and add what snaps are needed. Either way Im excited to see some pics Darrell! I bet your jet pack harness works great! Cant wait to get mine. Thanks bro, lets see some pics!
oh SNAP!
haah get it?
:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

Looking good D. So it looks like you are going with a topical application of the damage then?
thanks brother, and yes, all the damage i do is topical! i like the control of how fine a scratch i can get, unlike layered...you have to REALLY be good to go all layered, and i am just not...:lol
