I just found out the kit is unfinished. What do I have to do before I apply the first coat of paint?
Not to sound like a jerk, but have you used the "search" feature?
Alright, I spent the past 2 hours doing research on this. I'm going to home depot in a couple of hours to get the following supplies:
Main Coat
Rustoleum Aluminum
Rustoleum Spruce green
Weathering
Rust colored primer
Black
Trimming and Sanding
Sandpaper (5-600)
Dremel power tool with a fiberglass cutting wheel. A couple of grinding bits
Have I left anything out? Also, does anyone know if acrylic paint would be alright for the smaller details? (blaster scuffs etc) I appreciate any help.
I would suggest taking a look at some people's armor progress threads to see how they completed a set of armor. Reason I say that is because there are quite a few threads like that on here.
American Accents by Res-Oleum "Claret Wine" #7945 for the mandibles, Flat grey primer for the base as well as minor weathering. The Rust-Oleum "Spruce Green" I was only able to find at OSH. The other colors painted by hand(blasts, dents, scratches, ect.) check out TDH member AFettFullofDollars color list, he's a GREAT artist:thumbup And oh yeah, don't just jump in head first, take your time and do the research. Most all of your questions have been answered before, painting a bucket is not a fast process, it should be a MINIMUM of 2 weeks to prep and paint. If your doing it in layers with masking fluid that can be more complicated than topical, there are many ways to paint your bucket. Take your time and have fun!

My bad, I thought you said helmet.Armor's easy, as said before "spruce green" and the shoulders and knees use "Equipment Yellow" or "School Bus Yellow" spray paint(they both have that orangeish tint to the color. For the scratches use "Cat Whisker Yellow" or "Zink Chromate" model paint. When weathering Use Brand new cans as the produce a finer mist (flat brn., blk., gry. primer). Spray from a distance, and do this slowly as you don't want to over do it and make your armor too dirty, yes too dirty! Fett is weathered, not homeless.
you can give it a blackwash with some black acrylic to tone it down some and seal it with a clear matt finish. Hope this helps

Look at the "Link to MOM pics" in the "helmet" area I just bumped for you. They are invalueable, I would save some of them if I were you.You can use these as a reference.
Wow thanks for the help man, I really appreciate it. Unfortunately Home depot didn't have any cans of spruce green! Can I pick it up anywhere online?
Try Wal-Mart for the Spruce Green...I've also seen it at Hobby-Lobby and I *think* Lowe's...good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

I just found a great website for Spray paint. USAhardware.com. They have a huge selection of spray paint, and plenty of spruce green. Unfortunately The armor kit I received sucks monkey ****. It's riddled with imperfections. So I'm going to cut my losses and use it as practice for my next Kit.Thanks for all the help so far.
Spruce Green can be found at Orchard Supply Hardware. You can also fill the imperfections on your armor with Bondo filler putty.

Would leafy green also be a good substitute for Spruce Green? I'm about to use it for the helmet (and maybe the armor) and the color resembles the ESB style.

Try on a practice piece and rember when you weather it, it gets darker. Then take a photo in natural night(outside) and compare your color to the color of the MOM photos I bumped for you guys. The other green used is called "Panzer Olive Green" found at hobbie shops.Originally Posted by godaking
