Accurate Gauntlet Darts - Interest?

Absolutely Brian. I'm still in too Gav!

Well I contacted the guy and I've given the green light on the run...
I've expressed that the final mods had to be done on the final batch and I should have the first off the run by Monday/Tuesday? - What with everyones input the last design 'should' be nailed...

I'm gonna do these @ $30 shipped...

Regardless of whether or not the machinist comest through on these, the fact that you were willing to take criticism and re-adjust is to be commended.
I think this hobby could use a heck of a lot more people like you who willing to do that.
It's the only way to push the boundaries of accurate replicas.


That said, fingers crossed.

Gino, if it's stainless why do it have rust? I think the ali can be polished to look chrome. Have you seen the Anakin lightsaber from episode 3? It's aluminium but it looks chromed.

Thanks for the comps, and to answer your question about stainless? it would push the price up a bit... I can ask the guy before he pushes the button? but I cannot promise anything at this point.

I don't think it's rust on the original darts but rather some other kind of tarnish.

Also, I know alum can be polished to look chrome-like, but it's also a different color. See the following pic. The original chrome/stainless one on the right has more of a slight yellow-ish tint.

I'd be willing to pay a bit more for it being in the right material. If these are made to be just like the real thing, there is almost no reason to track down real ones anymore.

3rd one received this afternoon....
Ok after a lengthy chat with the machinist, he has made the final tweeks and said that he won't make anymore without charging me another high price for the prototype.
I had also inquired about the material change and basically due to material costs over here, it would be double the price and the fact the settings will have to be altered due the machining speeds etc for stainless it's blown the costs for me!

he'd like to push the button on the project as he has 'other' work that requires the lathe.

Shame about not being able to switch to stainless. I would have been willing to pay double for it.
I'll still take a set in alum until I'm able to track down some more originals.

Gav, I hope that this project serves as a successful example for other makers that it is worth making that extra push for more accurate parts. Also that it is beneficial to take public observations and criticisms into account before pulling the final trigger on a project.

Thanks for doing so. It was totally worth it.

Gino - If I had a more patient machinist and loads of cash to drop on a further prototype then maybe it could have happened? but at this rate, your all practically getting these at cost.

Good stuff mate! With some of the parts to make an accurate costume, the smallest detail counts. And with the standards you have you need a guy who's onboard. Looking forward to receiving my package mate!!
