Somebody help me... my head is gonna explode from looking at Boba pics, reading up on the different parts I need:jet pack, and thinking about the expense. I don't know how everybody does it and stays sane. Hopefully I'll feel better when I'm finished. I get easily obsessed. Ha!

You say obsessed like it's a bad thing!

Yes, it can be a bit overwhelming, but if it is any help just focus on one piece at a time. Break it down into sections just like the forum, helmet, armor, jet pack, etc. much easier to get your head around the process that way.

The cost really depends on how much of the work you are willing to do. I have seen quality Fetts that cost as little as a few hundred $$ to as much as a few thousand $$. Some made totally from scratch while others everything bought ready made (there are some fantastic artist on this board). You just need to pick what works best for you.

Do your research and most importantly have fun! This is a great board, lots of helpful people and all the info that you will ever need to make a great Fett.

Well said, Alan. I second that thought.

I'm one of those who wants it all right NOW! But, I've had to learn just what Alan said...to pace myself. I've already cut out the pieces to my armor, but I have them on a shelf until I finish my bucket. I also started on my gauntlets, but put those patterns away before cutting the first piece. I'm not even going to think about a jet pack until way off in the future. I hope to have all the pieces done to my and my son's armor by next Halloween, but if I don't, oh well.

Slow and steady, dude. Slow and steady.

    David.

Alan had some good advice. Focus on one part at a time.
Before I "really" got into this, I pored over reference pics endlessly. Then I discovered the 'Star Wars Helmets' website, and saw Steve the Swede's amazing ESB helmet. I was lost at that point.
The details that went into the original Boba Fett costume are just astounding, and if you try to take it all in as a whole, it can only lead to madness. Just pace yourself, and have fun!!
    Remember, if it's not fun, it's not a hobby. . . it's WORK!!!!

Something that helped me was to write down every part of the costume on an Excel spreadsheet, and all its components. This also helped me keep track of what I was spending on the total costume (I'm up to $2500+ myself).

If you have a singular talent like painting or sewing, that will help to make the total cost of your project go down, as well as give you opportunities to make a little money helping other members out by offering your services. More money for you, more money for props!

And finally, I make every effort to buy only what I can afford, but it's also important to me to buy the highest quality pieces available at the time. This saves you from spending more 'upgrade' dollars later. I've missed out on a couple of runs in the past (Hyperfirm, I'm looking at you!), and had to either settle for a lesser piece, or wait until another run comes along. I simply refuse to buy inferior props from here on out. I find I save more money that way.

With this hobby, patience is key.

That's my philosophy. I firmly believe you get what you pay for. And if you even have the slightest notion of an upgrade down the line, buy the best now. I went through that with cycling. I bought a midlevel road bike at first and ended up upgrading to a very expensive carbon bike later. Should got it to begin with. I just have to walk a fine line with the wifey on how much to spend. I'm gonna start it off with a MR helmet and go from there. I'll try to build one later down the road. I'll still have to try and paint the armor this go around. We'll see what happens.

I think what someone should do is take their statue, lay it on a vacforming table, and vac-form the whole blasted thing. Sure, it won't be uber-detailed or uber-accurate, but once you form two halves and glue 'em together, you'd have the world's cheapest life-size Fett statue! Woo-hoo! $40 material cost!

I believe Don Post already beat you to that idea back in the day (at least it looks to be about that quality) except they charge a lot more!!

I feel for you jpynk3...I really do! When I originally stumbled upon this site (by stumbling across TK409's site) I had thought before about building a Boba display and this site was like the clouds opening up from above, the rays of enlightenment coming through. I think I heard harps and a chorus as well.

After reading the boards for a while I thought, "Well this should be quick, easy and relatively unexpensive"... I was a little wrong there

Just hang in there and remember the search is your friend and there is a whole community of gracious and giving people here!
