Yet another ESB paint job

Started my ESB lid today. I will try to get pics in natural day light tomorrow as the colours seems a bit off in the pics.

I have decided to just do the main scratches on the dome layered, and then everything else will be topical. I am using the templates found in Count Dookie's thread here http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php?t=23320

Looking good!

I have a lid on the way from the states (I hope) and as Im a newbie I'll be keeping a close eye on this for tips :) I want to do a ESB lid too!

Sorry for the stupid questions but what is topical? I plan to use cans of spraypaint on mine - silver then mask then spray green and paint brush on acrylic for the weathering etc... its been YEARS since art class in school so any help is appreciated!

Looking nice so far - keep us updated sir!

Dave

No such thing as a stupid question :) topical is where you add the paint on the scratches etc. Layered is where you start of with base colours and then mask off the paint you want to see underneath. ie on mine I have layered the main scratches as you can see in the pics above, ie masked of the silver and then sprayed green over the top (peel off the masking fluid and you have layered scratches). All the other damage will be pinted on by hand (topical)

Now started on the back, have applied the stencils and will be putting a lick of blue/green on hopefully tonight

Ooh..pretty! great start Jon... you gonna mist some earth tones in places over the concrete? just to brerak up the single tone once revealed from the blue/green... ;)

Probably not. The cement colour i ended up with is a shade in between the photos, so weathering it could make it look funny

i have a question: how did you do the stencils? did you free hand it, or did you print off the pictures and trace them on? thanks!

printed them off to scale and then transferred onto tracing paper. then transferred onto the lid. Exactly the way we used to do at school :)

And a lick of paint :)

The plan is to finish all the main colours and major weathering, and then attempt the detailing

Looks great so far, keep up the momentum, your lucky when I started my FPH the weather was terrible, took me about 3 weeks just to get basic colours down (y)

and a little more :)

I have just got to put on the kill stripes and paint the ears. Now just a few weeks of putting on the weathering

the main dent kinda looks funny on the phots but looks way better in the flesh

I know exactly what you mean about the dent, when your detailing things look kind of odd on their own but once all the extra colours, layers and weathering go on it brings it all together, your doing great (y)(y)(y)(y)(y)
