WIP: ESB Boba Fett - Buck Rogers Resin

Jr Hunter
Couldn't pass up the deal on the 501st board and got one of Buck Rogers' black resin casts. Planning on doing this one in layered rattle can coats, ESB.

Received the shipment, and took this evening to clean, trim, and sand it some.

Looking at the ears, it appears a little daunting. They definitely are not flush as-is, but I'm wondering how much I need to sand these bits down. Should I just try to take the shiny bits off the backs? The range finder looks pretty fragile for me to be shaving it down...

After sanding, more sanding, and more sanding, I shot the bucket with a quick coat of self-etching primer so I could see where else I need to sand (as you can tell at the top of the visor) - it's hard to see the spots when it's solid black!

The ears are about as flat as I can get them. Looks like I may need a couple dabs of filler, as well.

Is there any issue with gluing the ears instead of using bolts? Other that prop accuracy? Just looking for 501st basic approval here, but a fairly accurate paint job (even with a rattle can job).

Nope, you can glue them. I like to use bolts in case i want to upgrade to aluminum ears, or like you said, just for accuracy sake. I wouldnt fill the seam lines though, (unless there is a HUGE gap)...even if you glue em on, it will give the appearance of them being bolted on with that little seam there...that said, it wont matter either way for basic Legion approval :)

Thanks for the feedback! I may reconsider the bolts, as it seems like the ears will be easier to paint if I don't glue em down...

Any threads on building a full resin rangefinder? Search is failing me.

1. Not sure where the stalk top is supposed to attach to the topper.
2. Unable to locate a paint thread on a resin topper... translucent??
3. LED ideas - I don't need it functional, so I'm thinking just epoxy a couple red LEDs in it.
