Who's Helmet?

AFFoD & tylerdurden,
Thanks for the clarification. One final question - Are either the Marrow_Sun or the MSH2 still being produced by the original makers?

C*E*N*O*B*Y*T*E,
I noticed that ebay trend also. As others have stated, eBay is a crazy place.

I thought ALL versions of the mystery helmet were recasts. The origional wasn't fanmade, so how is it any different compared to a recast of a DP? It seems those ebay sellers are doing nothing that others haven't done here. Is there a difference? :confused

Great question, JD. Yes, the current "Mystery style" helmets are both recasts off a finished helmet that were scuplted/cast/finished by someone else. That situation does put the recasting issue of "Mystery style" helmets on similar ground with the DP deluxe. HOWEVER, there is a caveat.

The two current producers of "Mystery style" helmets have had to do some clean-up and work to make the helmet a sellable item. So each one is unique and has a known producer, and as such, TDH will not condone recasting of either producers helmet.

How does one tell if they have one of these two producers helmets? Are there distinguishing characteristics that give them away before they are trimmed and primed (so to speak) for painting?

I bought a fiberglass helmet that was completely unfinished a month or so ago. It arrived in really rough shape- cracked, but fixable with some work. 'Looked like the delivery guy sat on the box. The seller said he had them for a fan movie that was never made a couple of years ago. He even shipped me another one to replace the damaged one at no cost to me. -Super nice guy, but i'm curious about the helmet's origin.

so back to my origional topic... the don post helmet is one piece ar two? the rubies is a two piece helmet. if the don post is one that makes it better already.

The Don Post helmets are all one piece. From what I have seen, even though the DP's need some work to correct the flare, the visor, paint, etc., they are all better than the Rubies helmets.

The general ratings for the Don Post helmets are, from best to worst:
1. Don Post Delux - As stated above, cast from an original movie helmet but not that accurate.
2. Don Post 95 - best paint, size, flare of the vinyl helmets.
3. Don Post 96 - decent for a vinyl helmet, needs work.
4. Don Post 97 - some are really warped and can't be fixed.

At some point, I believe you can trace the origin of the DP Deluxe to a real helmet. However, the helmet has been extensively modified.

does anyone one know a reliable place to get a don post helmet? i need one and i can't spend much on it. about $75 is my max!!! it can be broken whatever. let me know.

I can send you a DP95 (green interior) for that 75 bucks that's burning a whole in your pocket
.
I already removed the t-visor, but have not replaced it yet.

Chances of finding an MSH 2 are very slim. I've been asking for ages, no joy, so I am building my own MSH bucket.

You are better off with a Marrow_Sun or Mystery Helmet anyway.

I already have a Marrow_Sun (excellent helmet) but was under the impression that the MSH2 was the helmet to have... am I wrong?

There is a fair amount of subjectivity when one is selecting their helmet. Some individuals might want a "minds-eye" version of the helmet over an accurate representation- complete with bumps, warps, and asymmetry. So in that regard, I can't tell anyone which choice is correct.

However, the Marrow_Sun/Mystery Helmet is the helmet that has the closest origin and features of a real helmet.
