Use of Batting helmet

I am finally getting around to making a helmet and I am using a batting helmet for the dome.I am going to make a At-St lid or maybe even a "fett" lid.
From the research I have done I notice that those who have used a batting helmet for the dome cut the dome into fourths, why would I need to cut the dome into fourths? It seems to have the right dimensions???
Any advice or help would be great..Thank you

If you have a helmet with the right dimentions, you really don't have to do anything to it. I know of several people that have used skate helmets, and just put together the WoF blueprints directly on that. As for myself, i have been struggeling with the four pieces for some time now. The reason i went with this, is simply because my batting helmet was too small to fit the scale i was using. By splitting it in four pieces, i was able to make it the exact size and look for the top of my bucket. But as i said, it is a pain in the ... to get the surface right. You need a lot of patience and a lot of bondo + sanding, sanding, sanding.
Good luck.(y)

I noticed a batting helmet at the flea market today and almost picked it up (for $5 I should have anyway) but I noticed it was kid-sized. That would definately have to be drawn and quartered to be made to work for a full size Fett noggin. I was being tight-fisted with $ today though so I just decided I didn't have any projects on the burner that needed such a helmet just now. A little while down the road I'll pro'ly kick myself as I look around and go, "now why the %&#%* didn't I pick up that batting helmet when I had the chance?"

Anyway, like KoRn3000 said, if your helmet is the right size already then you don't need to do anything to it. One thing the quartering does do (if it needs to be done) is to make the shape of the finished product look more "squared off", as the Fett topper tends to look.

Thank you for the help
The batting helmet I am using is for a youth but after I removed the protective pading inside of it the helmet fit a little to much.I figure after I install a adjustable insert it should fit the way I need it to.
From the measaurements I have I dont think I will need to "quarter" this dome.
