TK409 Helmet Smashed (viewer discretion advised)

Good lord Chris! That is horrible!

I'm not sure about repairs. I think it is possible but you may have some difficulty restoring the structural integrity of the helmet. Either way the thing is gonna need a new coat of paint so you might be better off just cutting your losses and getting a fresh bucket.

Sorry to see this happen to such a nice dude. :( People indeed suck.

You can repair it, I would first fix the "sledge hammer" hole in the middle.
Take your pieces and fit them together, adhere them from the backside to a larger piece of plastic, as best you can align the plastic on the inside, and then epoxy.
I would do the same for the mandible.
You can make it stronger with liquid fiberglass on the inside.
Once complete you will have to fill in the cracks w/ bondo then touch up the paint.
So sorry bro...try fingerprinting or some DNA analysis, don't let this crime go unpunished!

DANG that SUCKS!! but it looks repairable. all you need is some fibreglass and bondo and repaint it a little and it should look good. sorry that happed.

Oh man!

That was painful! :cry

Fix it Chris! That helmet has history! You should repair it! (y)

NO! THIS IS HORRID! Chris, if it were not for your website, I never would have started, nor gotten close to finishing my costume. Seeing that makes me feel like I lost my helmet!

In all honesty, if you don't want this helmet anymore, I would love to have it, I'd even pay for it. I would repair it to the best of my abilities and it would go up on the shelf.

But please, don't throw this away, try your best to fix it. You may want to replace it anyway, but think of all of the good times you've had in the helmet! I'd just hate to see this masterpiece go into some landfill.

From what I have seen of your work bro, if anyone can fix it, it'd be YOU.

Bobagoat may be right, especially with the other helmets being run again over on the RPF. You could always this one under an acrylic display and labeling it as "Sarlacc Snack"..maybe mess up the paint a little, etc...that way you still have a displayable helmet with JB signature in full view...

SO sorry bro. If there is anything I can do, please let me know.

If it were me, I'd give fixing it a go. If it doesn't work out, I believe the Sarge is doing a run of buckets again. Darn shame though....:cry :angry

I see that bucket everyday when I look at my computer's desktop! I'd hate to see it thrown out.

I think that the helmet can be fixed fairly easily, give it a good try though!

At Comic Con this year, my helmet fell out of the car! The RF stalk bent in half, broke the RF, and scratched the face a little. The scratch was no noticable, I bent the RF stalk straight, and had the RF glued back together and repainted within 2 minutes of the parking lot. I got extremely lucky.

That really bites! For there to be that sort of damage, and to the gun, I would think someone was playing around and being really stupid!

Is is fixible? It appears so to me. However, I would second the advice of leaving it at home in a glass case. After all it is signed. Keep it at home where you can enjoy it. For the mannaquin, I would suggest another bucket. maybe even a Rubies as it's not as expensive. Sure you'll have to paint it an all, but honestly, I think spending roughly $90 for a Rubies and painting it is better than 190 for another "decent" bucket and worrying it could happen again!!!!

Man that really sucks!!

But on the bright side it is totally fixable and should only require minimal repaint. I would suggest using modeling clay on the outside of the hemlet to position the pieces in there proper place on the helmet (do check to make sure that the clay doesn't react with the paint some oil based clay can have a reaction, but it still should be ok as long as you don't leave it on for an extended period of time) (DON'T USE TAPE) and tack the pieces in place with small drops of thick super glue.

Once it is all tacked back together double check to make sure that every thing is where it is suppose to be, work on one crack at a time from the inside fill each crack with baking soda, smooth out the baking soda as much as possilbe to the final shape then hit it with thin super glue. The baking soda will make the super glue cure almost instantly also watch out for the fumes.

Once you have all the cracks filled it should be as good as new. you can then do some clean up work and lay in fiberglass if you want, but it most likely won't be needed espically if you are only using it for display. This method will let you preserve the autographs also.

Good luck. What ever you do don't trash it. I'll fix it for you for free if it comes to that.

Alan

P.S. Sarge is currently sell these helmets over at the RPF for $90 plus $20 shipping.

Ah, thanks guys. "Sarlacc snack" indeed!
I actually thought about that too after the horror wore off. Oh man SaxeCoburg, I can imagine how your brother and the butterfingers who dropped his clone helmet felt!! Yikes. Talk about awkward.

I don't believe there was any maliciousness at all. I think what happened was someone tried on the helmet and the rifle and when they put them back it set Boba off balance and that's when he fell down (probably after they left.) Another explanation is that the mannequin just gave way and rotated at a particular joint or something random. But man that helmet and rifle had to really hit hard to bust apart like this.

I'm encouraged by your comments about fixing it - it definitely won't go in the trash. I've done some fiberglass work and that turned out well. I'll keep you posted. In the end, it's just a thing. Things can be replaced.

(I just really, really liked this one!) :)

Place a "DO NOT TOUCH OR DIE SIGN ON BOBA, might even add a fake small Video camera with small sign says "smile you're on TV"

Chris, that helmet was part of the inspiration for me to do a Fett costume. It must be fixed, at least to display. And when you find out who did it, bring them to Dragon Con so we can have a public flogging.
