TK409 Helmet Smashed (viewer discretion advised)

Four years ago after the end of SgtFang's first run of the original "Mystery helmet" I thought I had missed out by not getting one - until one day someone posts one for sale on RPF and I snapped it right up! I spent days painting and repainting it and it was my helmet from then on. I even had it signed by both Jeremy Bulloch and Daniel Logan. I can't tell you how much I like this helmet.

For the past few months I've had my Fett outfit in a semi-retired state on a mannequin in my office at Epic Games and he's become pretty popular. When the press comes by, the guys always bring them by and they've taken photos, etc. My coworker CliffyB even posted him on his blog:

So I come to work Tuesday morning and see my Fett statue doesn't have his helmet on. That's weird, but not alarming. It must be around here somewhere, right? Nothing could have prepared me for what I saw next. Please, Fett enthusiasts, if there are children in the room, send them away. These are graphic images.

The helmet is sitting on my desk and the first thing I see is that there is a gaping hole where the face used to be. Then I see the big hole in the top. The helmet is surrounded by all the parts: ears, rangefinder, and several pieces of what look like shrapnel. Then I realize that the front part of the rifle is along side the fragmented parts, along with several other smaller pieces that belong to it. The rifle had been disconnected at the handle - that is, the screws from the aluminum bracket came out of the resin handle. No big deal, I can screw that back together, but the scope was off and several smaller greeblies had been shorn off. No one has any idea what happened. My officemate Mikey Spano kindly picked up the pieces and put them on my desk. Lots of guys have been by to offer their condolences.

My question is: is this fixable? Should I toss it and start over? If not, I forsee much fiberglass net, resin, bondo, sanding and repainting in my future. :(

Someone knows, they just are not saying anything. :angry Other than your mannequin falling over, your helmet and blaster damage could only be caused by human intervention. :angry

Sorry to hear that Chris... honestly, while I am sure some one of your skill coould repair the helmet, I would feel the effort would be better placed in doing a new helmet.

Once again sorry bro...:cry

If the mannequin had fallen there would be far more damage I would imagine. I really feel for you man. I know how distrought I have been when bits of my Fett have been broken by others purely by accident.

Do you have people come in and clean your offices? It may be worth finding out if regualr cleaners were replaced by new ones for what ever reasons.

I hope you manage to pull it back together and get to the bottom of it

Sorry to see that - cleaning crew perhaps?

I would try to recover it - since it is signed and all.

The repair will be tough - but as mentioned - you have the skills to do so.

However, I would retire this helmet after you fix it, and put it in a glass box in your home.

Get a new helmet for trooping in.

Make sure you pin all the pieces in place, that way, if it is bumped in the future, it will not break along that crack.
Also, make "bands" inside, like stitches, to reinforce the repair.

Chris, that looks nasty but not beyond repair.

Bondo and fibreglass are a great combination. Luckily, it looks like the pieces are large rather than small crumbs. The only thing is that it will bear some scars where it joins back together, unless you can touch them up with paint. You might even get away with just re-painting the dome.

It would be a real shame if this gets thrown away, at least give it a go.

Good luck and I'm sure it will soon be back in service.

Excuse some of my language please...this ticked me off

The first thing I'd do is find out who did this. Are there any security cameras, or any nightime security? If so, I would be rushing to find who did this. Frankly, that just pisses me off. From what appears happend, it may eiter be a vandal, or some dick that decided to run around in it, and smash his head into things. I only get the "playing idiot" theory because if someone wanted to play "boba fett" for an hour or two, everyone would know the only things you'd need are the helm and the rifle. So, just from that, I can see some guy running down a hallway, wearing your helm, and holding the rifle, and slamming into a wall or something of that nature and totally ruining your day. Thats what I think you should do is investigate who did it, and then have him pay for the damages.

Some times stuff just happens though... at the TDH prop party this past weekend... my jet pack rocket was snapped in two. It wasnt really anyones falt... and was fixable and it sucked... but what can ya do!

That made my stomach turn just reading your intro and not seeing the pictures yet. Sorry this happened. Hope you can patch her back together. From the looks of things and your ingenuity I am sure you can make it happen.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone new on the cleaning crew did'nt know it was there or was aware of the prop, walked into the dark room, turned on the light and freaked out, hitting the standing prop with something !!!!
So realistic - the guy or gal might have had a warrant for their arrest and thought BF was here to collect !!!!!! You were offered no explanation so far ?
I'd be pretty angry to say the least.

Damn shame about the damge, but with the signatures I would most certainly try to fix the damage as much as possible.

i bet it can be fixed up. you'll probably need to do a fair bit of repainting, but the signatures are on the inside, so that's good. i'd mask them off (sheet of plastic over the names, taped up really really well!) then get it back together.

i think i'd use gell superglue or similar initially to hold it together, then fiberglass / bondo to clean it all up.

and then put it in a nice case somewhere safe!

hmm. No that is definate intentional damge. The only way for the cheek to break off is to hit it, REALLY HARD! Granted resin isn't as strong as fiberglass, it has a certain amount of flex to it. I can flex both the cheeks in far enough to touch each other on my sgt. fang helmet. AND if it did fall it would have made a crack if anything that is an intetional hit, looks to be with a ballpine hammer, so what I'd do is find the guy in the office with a balpine hammer, and hit him in the head and cheek with it.

I bet you 10-1 the stupidass cleaning crew broke it being careless. I would contact a supervisor. Chris, I'm sorry that happened:(
