TF2 ESB Paint Job for Captain Awesome=FINISHED!

TF2 ESB Paint Job for Captain Awesome=FINISHED!

Finally got around to starting this helmet. So, i've added the signature hero damage, mounted the visor in a screen accurate style and primed ready for paint. i thought it would be fun to add the under ear weathering and colours as seen in the EFX video of the hero helmet being cast. This is a commission for Captain Awesome ( as he calls himself ) who has systematically pestered me for a year until i finally gave in...

I love the look of your new helmet and the ear platforms are just perfect. The right ear platform color is basically that pesky base gray color that is present most of the (ESB) silver scratches. Can't wait to see the next post!

So... Who is this mysterious Captain Awesome?

I can guarantee multiple things to come out of this thread.

    1. Probably the most accurate ESB paint job anyone will see on this board.

    2. Multiple immature jabs at Garrett from yours truly.

    3. Another sticky.

*G, you're the only guy I know who can wow people with just primer and bases of ears painted. Can't wait for more buddy. This paint up will definetly do your new wonderful lid justice. Lets just hope those yoga lessons don't damper the progress.

Yeah I'm not sure I have the base grey correct yet, I'll be attempting a few test strips to refine it before the first helmet layer goes down. I'll be painting the ears first...

Captain Awesome will introduce himself I'm sure...

Yeah! Definitely be watching this one.
I'm lucky enough to have seen an ESB helmet painted by Garrett in person
and it was pure art! I expect we'll see nothing less this time around.

That is just beautiful. A lot of care and craftsmanship went into it. And the paint job too of course ;-)

I'm a bit noob to the scene to know of previous work, but this looks pretty awesome. What color "gold" is that you are using?

Re: TF2 ESB Paint Job for Captain Awesome

Hi, it's not gold but yellow/ brown.

Re: TF2 ESB Paint Job for Captain Awesome

Just added the right ear black and white details. I used masking tape to achieve both and nicked the bottom edge of the black section with a craft knife to simulate the masking tape paint run. The first three layers are on the left ear, i've included a grey detail layer i haven't previously included before on this piece. Also I'm now using a tool that allows me to mask to the thickness of a pencil line...
