Terminal Fettler (and FP) light kit

Ok, so after a long period of time of developing the circuit, I have ordered the PCB for the TF light kit. My plan for this kit is to have it be easy to install and require no soldering by the buyer. This kit will be using the honeywell 1sx1-t micro switch and not a tilt switch like in my Asok kit. It will also be using 12v DC grain of wheat bulbs to light up the perspex block, and everything will run off of a 9v battery. When I build the mock up I will see how much of a difference a 12v battery makes on the GOW bulbs and how long it will last compared to the 9v and if it seems like a better option, then I will change the circuit to accept the battery to a 12v.

    photo-jpg

I already have a few of the honeywell switches and parts for the board, and once I get the boards and my hollow stalk from fettpride, I will start the mock up. As this porcess progresses, I will post pics to show everyone how it is going to work. As of right now, I don't know if this is going to be an ongoing run do to the price of the boards and the micro switches. The possibility of making it an ongoing run is open, but there must be a reaonable amount of interest for this to happen; the boards are about half the size of my Asok kits and are going to be very difficult to build since I do all of the soldering by hand.
I know that there have been a few members that have been really interested in this and I will get this ball rolling as soon as i can get all the parts together.
I would also like to give a big shout out to a few members for without thier help this project wouldn't be happeneing; Terminal Fettler for hooking me up with one of his kits (these things are awesome and one of the best toppers available), Fettpride for the parts and the advice he has given me (thanks for listening to me and giving me ideas), and Asok for helping me out with parts and for making the RF topper that started it all.
    Thanks,
    JC

The whole idea is that the GoW lamps should not have a bright light and this will require a low voltage. If you have good results with the 9v battery, then I suggest to leave it that way (it also increase the light bulb's life). But first I eagerly wait to see the first results...

Thanks Raf. With the 9v, the bulbs will look just like the on the vid I have in my Asok sale thread. I will most likely stick with the 9v because they are cheaper and have more current.

What you're working on sounds like just what I'm looking for! Can't wait to see your progress!

Hopefully you aren't the only one. These are going to be a lot of work.

Do you think there would be a way to fit the board inside the helmet and just run wires to the switch and lights from there kind of like the movie helmets?

    Either way I am interested.

The board is small so it could go just about anywhere, but the LEDs will be soldered to the board, so unless they are removed and new wiring is installed, it won't work. I designed the board to fit in the rf because of space inside the helmet. Some people already have fans and voice amps and having the board and the battery for it may be too much.

Re: Terminal Fettler (and FP) light kit

    UPDATE:
The boards will be here sometime this week, as well as the parts needed to start making a few kits. I am planning on working on this this weekend, and if everything goes well, I should have a working prototype by Sunday night. Now I haven't figured out how many I am going to make, although I may have enough parts right now (other than the GOW bulbs and micro switches, which aren't too hard to get) to make about 15 kits. Now I'm not sure I'm going to make all 15 due to the complexity of the kit, and needing more GOWs and MSs. If it looks like that there is a real demand for this thing, I can make it an ongoing run because I have all the parts sourced and can order them fairly easily.
The second issue is cost, and that is still to be determined. Once I get the mockup built, that will give me an idea of how much they will be, and like my Asok kit, no overseas shipping for right now. I will post a pic of the boards when I get them.

    JC -

You know I'm down for one... maybe even two just to be safe.

F4R, your Asok kit is done. Also I just finished a TF board and it works perfect. I took a video of it and will post it before I go to work Thursday. Now I didn't run it through the Honeywell switch because I still need the hollow stalk, I just used the switch in the battery holder to turn it off and on. I used an old 9v so the GOW bulbs are a bit dim but everything works like it should and everything fits perfect.

Here it is. It was a pain because its so small, but it works. Its not running through the switch, but that will be the easy part.

    Just read your PM!

Wow! It looks great! Can you do the same video without the surrounding lights, in total darkness? Or at least in semi-darkness? It would help to see how bright are the lights in those conditions. But so far so good!

Re: Terminal Fettler (and FP) light kit

I was using my iPhone for the vid, and it has issues with low light environments. Also that battery was an old one I found, about 7.8v so the GOWs will be a tad brighter with a new battery. I will try to take another vid tonight after work.
