Stunning work. I just ordered an airbrush kit, a bazillion paints, and liquid mask. I can only hope my lid looks half this good when I am done with it! Of course, If I jack it all up I will just send it to you Superjedi!

Thanks, LongHammer. Just remember, patience is key with projects like these.
Do research, study reference pics, practice with that airbrush (if you've never used one before).

Yeah, I have a GMH on order, but I have a terribly painted Don Post that I get to experiment on while I wait! I hope to get a feel for doing the layering as well as even coats on that bad boy and then I can approach the good helmet with a bit more skill. I am using mostly Hasbro paints, so we will see how it goes. I may also do my armor before the helmet since it is not quite so intricate. That is assuming I am able to order some armor soon! If only the Navy gave me more time off!

Navy guy, huh? Cool. I'm retired Air Force, but don't hold that against me.

Your Don Post gives you a realistic "palette" that you can practice on.
You can try different techniques and colors to see what works before your GMH arrives.

You said Hasbro paints? I didn't know Hasbro made paints. . . did you mean another brand?

Fantastic results, to who in my mind, is the best topical painter (or layer-opical;-)), and one of the finest overall artists on this board. Simply super job Eric!

I meant Humbrol! Hahaha, I just had an early 90's flashback to when those toy ads finished up with "from Hasbro!" I have no idea where that came from.... I am going to attempt to do most of it using the layer technique, and then topically apply the darker grays, and weathering (might attempt some pastel powder work there, we will see). Do you usually seal it with a matte finish clear coat?

Jonny, thank you sir. . . and you know every time you use the term "layer-opical " you owe me a dollar.

LongHammer, that explains it! I was like, "Hasbro makes paints now??"
Sounds like you have a solid plan in mind for your helmet. Thinking things through step by step
can be a big help when you're planning your project.

You're strategy makes the most sense to me. Layered paint just seems to look so much better, and more realistic. Poorly done topical looks hideous. I think if I can do a large portion of it by layering, it will look great, and I will only need to do very minor topical paint. Any good recommendations on very fine paintbrushes for painting/masking?

    Thanks Deadland.

LongHammer, I just use Testors Model Master brushes. They have worked well for me over the
years, and if you take good care of them, they last for a good while. I use the size 0 and size 000.
I do have a size 00000 brush, but I very rarely use it.
