Superjedi's FPH2 for Jbdubz

UPDATE 2: DAY 18

Turn signal area is complete. This is like a little "palette cleanser" between the cat scratch area and the dent, LOL.
Some silver, some gray, a few physical scratches. . . ahh, delicious.

Here are a couple of angles.

Tomorrow: the dent!

Thanks, Zero!

UPDATE: DAY 19

So this will bring the Fett part of the weekend to a close. I got the dent and the streak finished a little while ago.
Size and position is really important for these features as they're arguably the most recognizable on the entire helmet.
It's hard to get a good shot of this area because it extends over a good portion of the dome's curve. Here are a couple of angles.

Here's a little close up shot of the details within the dent.

IMG_2700_zpszrh8iar2.jpg

The appearance will change a bit at the end of the project when I apply the pale contrasting gray. There's a good amount of
it within the dent itself. I'll also add the "blast residue" with pastels.
Back to work tomorrow, so things will slow down again. The next section will be the big scrape across the top of the dome.

Sigh.....

But PROVE that it isn't any of the million AMAZING paintjobs that you've done over the years!

I demand a Rancor 'wearing' the helmet in the next update. If you don't, I'll alert the proper authorities.

(looks fantastic, btw...)

Thanks, G2B!

LOL Rubio! Work has been killin' me this week. I've barely had any time to do anything on the helmet.
But the next update will include the proof you requested!

UPDATE: DAY 24

Whew! My killer work week is over. :) Finally had time to finish the giant scrape across the top of the dome.
I had done bits and pieces over the last few days, and I managed to get the last of it done a little while ago.
It's hard to get a good angle on this feature without blowing out the silver.

This sets me up to do the killstripes! I'll have more to show once they're done.

And Rubio. . . *sigh*. . . here's the Rancor wearing the helmet.

IMG_2704_zps1otjltvz.jpg

Let me tell you, she was NOT happy about getting dragged into this! I'd watch my back if I were you.

Till next time, Fetters!

Till next time, Fetters!

You win this round, superjedi...but I'll retuuuuurn!!!

Totally messing with you, brother. Looks fantastic, as we've all come to expect. Jbdubz, you're the real winner.

Thanks, all! Back on my weekend painting schedule. :)

UPDATE: DAY 25

Killstripes! Lots of masking involved for these. I did a killstripe tutorial a while back in the Prop Building Workshop forum.
I used the same technique that I described in that thread. The stripes are "naked" for now. I like to do the stripes before
I finish up the damage on the left side of the dome, since it's pretty closely dependent on the stripes' positions.
Here are a couple of shots.

I have some pretty bright light coming into my hobby room, even with the blinds closed. It's kind of oversaturating the colors a bit.

IMG_2706_zpsiiitotkl.jpg

Next I'll start working the silver and gray that are intermixed around and between the stripes.

The stripes look amazing E and the color transition from yellow to orange is so perfect it made me giggle a little. totally stoked to see how you do the over spray!

Sent from my R2 unit

I'm totally in awe of this paint up. The skill, detail and commitment are amazing.

you make it look so simple but I'm sure once I finally contemplate starting mine it will be a whole different story.

Thanks! Happy Father's Day, Jeremy. :)

UPDATE: DAY 26

OK, the killstripes are "dressed" now. The left side of the dome is about 95% complete. I'll do some additional weathering with
some media other than paint at the end of the project. I'll be adding some pastels and some colored pencil, too.

So all the major work is done on the dome and I'm ready to move down to the cheeks. The first stage was to paint the dark
color on the outer cheeks. I like to use Polly Scale PRR Brunswick Green for these.

IMG_2714_zps631qaxxo.jpg

More cheeks to come!

Thanks sepulturero!

UPDATE 2: DAY 26

This is where we'll leave the helmet at the end of the weekend. I got the right cheek detailing done. There's some more to do in
the upper corner of the outer cheek, but I do this when I paint the mandible damage, as it's more of an extension of that portion.

IMG_2715_zpskaftzdog.jpg

IMG_2717_zpshdlcq2on.jpg

I'll begin the left cheek during the week. I really like the damage patterns on the left inner cheek for some reason. They seem very angular compared
to other parts of the helmet. It's also got that little bit of greener gray on the outer portion that doesn't appear anywhere else on the helmet.

Thanks again, guys!

UPDATE: DAY 30

One month in. . .
Got the left cheek done. Like I mentioned, I've always liked the damage patterns on the inner cheek. They almost seem to form a
rectangle. It's an illusion, but the appearance is very angular and different to the rest of the helmet. I also mix another custom
color for the inner cheek. On the outer edge there's a darker, greener gray that doesn't appear anywhere else on the helmet. It's
just another one of those quirks of the ESB!

IMG_2720_zpshu4i4kp3.jpg

This sets me up for masking and shooting the base color for the mandibles. Hooray! A small break from gray and silver.
