Stupid Visors...

Ok, I need your help. I am visor-capped. I can not, for the life of me, install a visor in this helmet. It's not for lack of trying. I've attempted glue, screws and all to no avail.

The problem I have had, this is with all 3 helmets I have attempted to install a visor in, is that I break the visor.

I bought the last one on ebay (the one that comes with the stickers, etc). I knew that glue would not do it (learned from the previous two buckets), so I attempted to use the screw method. Broke.

Is there a visor that works better? I was thinking about getting that green face sheild, but am worried, with good reason, that I will break it, as I did when I bought one last time.

Any expert insight? If it helps at all, they keep breaking in the same place, see image:

Maybe you should try the "tabbed" method. I'm sure there is a thread for it some where. You can make tabs out of the JB weld stuff. An epoxy that hardens like metal. tk-409 explains it some on his site.

I put myn in with Kit, just kitted it together, and hold the thing in its place with cloth pegs... I know... crued...

but it worked, then I did the edges with glue that dried in seconds, cost me 10 years of my life because of inhaling the bloody toxin, but it's ok now.

Have you ever thought about velcro? You trim the strips so they are really narrow and run some on the helmet and some on the visor. The visor is super easy to change out and the small gap allows pretty good air flow if you lay down the velcro in segments.

I did that with my Jodo Kast and ESB Boba helmets and it worked like a charm.

Do have Pics of that??? I would like to see that....I mean that's a really innovative Idea...Velcro.?(y)

Sorry, no up close pics. My new M_S helmet will be coming soon so I'll be going with velcro on that one again.

Just use the industrial sticky velcro and slice it into 1/8" or 5/16" strips. You stick it to the edges of the visor (male side) assuming you have approx. 1/4" overlap, press on the opposite kind of velcro (female side), pull off the backing from that side, line it up inside your helmet and press it down. The best part is all you need to do to replace your visor is to cut new strips (male side) for the new visor.

The visor isn't 100% flush but it comes out damn near and no one but the slight breese on your face through the gaps will know the difference. ;)

That sounds like a Very Practical way of replacing visor's.....(y)
Please post pics when you get a chance...
I'm really interested in seeing how Flush it is...I mean these Visor's get Scratched so easily as it is, the would be GREAT way to set it up!!
Thanks JODO.(y)

I used a product called Plastic Welder on mine, it comes in a bottle much like an epoxy, but when it dries, it becomes nearly impossible to break apart. The green face shield is an amazing product, allows great visibility, is bendy, and looks great too!!!

That's what I used. I started with hot glue, but it would always pull loose. Plastic welder will hold it in like it was made to it.

The way I did it was put a glob on the side i wanted to start on, then hold it tight with my hands while the glue was drying for about 5 minute, by that time it is set, and wont come loose. I did this around the inside of the visor in six locals, and it took me about a half an hour.

I am surprised to hear that you have been cracking your visors. I have done two helmets now and have not had any problems.

The first visor I got was a already pree formed visor that was supposed to fit "perfectly" into a DP helmet. It fit, but not perfect. I Just laid it in, and suspended the helmet face to the ground and hotglued it in place. Once the hot glue was dry I was able use Goop, and glue all around the rest of the edges to make it more solid and to fill the gaps.

The Secound visor I had was a pre-cut but not shapped visor. I stuck it in a small convec oven and heated it up so it was nice and hot and very plyable. I suspended the helmet again face down and laid in the visor and it took the sape of my helmet perfectly and left no gaps and gave a really nice look to the visor. I again hot glued it in place just to keep it from moving on me and gooped it down.

Quick, eaisy and cheep.

Cracking I believe would only come from a brittle visor that you are trying to flex too far or applying too much preasure to any one point. Try the heat method, see how it helps.

Hot glue is a good way to go, but the best way I found is this:
Loctite Super Glue Gel Control.

This stuff worked like a charm. Before I put it in, I scored the edges of both the visor and the helmet (where the visor would attach) and then applied the glue and viola! Before I used it, I used hot glue, but when it got warm, or hot again, it came undone. Not the case with the gel super glue. GOOD STUFF!
