StudioFett Lid (via rattlecan) Pic Heavy

I figure since I am doing this for my brother G Fett (aka Studio Fett) as a favor instead of commission, I would post a thread to keep the preasure on me to improve upon what I am doing. Now for those of you who know Greg then you know that he is one of the most talented men in the universe with a pencil and a pc for his art. However, he BUTCHERED a lid in a way as describable as a masacre. He brought it to me in hopes of giving it some CPR. I will post some "Before" shots later (just to totally give him heck) yes I am that guy).

Now I am no SpideyFett or Webchief with a rattlecan so this is and always will bea hobbie of practice for me over and over again.

So sit back and give me some feedback folks.

    Ivan

The crooked pictures on the wall show some of G's work hanging in my office. The man is a genius!!!

He is a lot nicer than my blood related siblings so I will claim him! The TK drawing is a Matt Bush work that I got at Fan Days II in TX last month. Check out Studio Fetts website at

    http://studiofett.com/

Just turn your speakers down a little if you are at work... The website doesn't do his work justice. You really have to see it in person to "feel" it.

Wow, I have so many pics of the progress so far on this lid but they are all on my cell and I keep forgetting the SD card reader at home. So, I decided to post the "before" pics from our favorite Fett brother (this is just to rib him as we know he is a brilliant artist)

Yeah, yeah, rub it in, I am a talentless wit when it comes to my bucket. Hopefully I make up for it in my artwork.

Okay, I finally have some pics up as I am way farther along than I originally thought. Here are some progress pics.
I did something a little different this time around by "dirtying the paint by mysting flat black into the greens. It looks better in person after Knocking it down with 0000 grade steele wool.

I ran into a HUGE problem with the paint when I went to remove the masking tape. Look at these boogers! Any suggestions as to what went wrong? It wasn't temp and I gave ample time to dry. It just didn't want to adhere. I had a similar problem when I taped off the lower mandable two days later? I am using weak tape and there is NO way it should be doing this...

Your tape is too tacky. How long did you let it sit? Some paint doesnt adhere as well to ther paint as you would think it would.

I have had that happen too. It looks like the green just didnt bite. What temp are you painting at? garage? cold?

I know I gave that helmet to him, and it was a first or second test cast. It was lumpy and I never sanded, or even cleaned it. But it looks like your paint isnt setting to the undercoat. Not the actual helmet.

Also, and this is a wierd one but sometimes if your painting multiple things, the 'overspray' in the area will actually settle on your painted item. And the next coat will not adhere as the paint dust (any dust even or moisture) will act as a release agent.

I suggest letting it dry for 72 hrs (give or take depending on paint) and then wash it with a degreaser of some sort (even windex) to make sure you get everything off of it before you paint another layer.

Overall. think of it as payback for giving him a hard time

On another note, theres paint mask thats folded paper with a small thin edge of paint on it. I prefer that (or making my own out of paper) as opposed to putting on the heavy masking tape. A full piece of 4 inch tape placed on a surface creates quite a bit more suction when u remove it than a small edge line.
