    May 23, 2005, 8:23 PM - Start with helmet? #1

Hi all. this is a great site. I have finally decided to try and make my own outfit after years of wanting to do so.

Due to lack of money I will be doing this in parts. My question is: Should I begin with the helmet and work from there? I am just trying to decide which might be the best area to start with.

Also..I am a little confused on what helmet should be used. Is Don Post Delux ok for a begginner like me? it is kind of mind boggling reading about all these different helmets that are available.

    Thanks!

What ever you can afford is what's best for you. The Don Post Helmets are better than the Rubies helmets. People have done pretty amazing stuff with both. Start where ever you feel comfortable. If you want to get a helmet and start with that do it. Eventually you'll get around to everything. There is no wrong or right way to do anything. Read about what other people have done and learn from others mistakes. It will save you time and money. Ask questions when you need help. Everybody's pretty freindly here. Good luck and welcome to the board.

Im just starting on my Boba myself, but have been doing costuming for a couple years. I would sugest starting with the helmet. Helmet is usable right out of the box (considering its put together) even if its not painted. You CAN wear it, but thats not what Im talking about. You can just put on your desk or night stand and have it be a decrotive piece for the time being. I know thats what Im going to do with my helmet as soon as I get it and Ill just look at it from time to time and remind myself how awesome its going to be having the whole suit. With the armor you coulnt realy do something like that. Just my 2 cents...

Id start off with the helmet, if you never make it past that at least you got something that looks cool. But from what I have learned is just go all out. If you buy cheep now youll want to upgrade later and that will just cost you more in the long run. I bought the "what I can afford" and had to upgrade costing much more. But then again thats just me.

I will second that. Save your money and buy the best you can the first time and take your time. It is not a race. Also, look at the ref pictures. That way you can compare what you are wanting to buy with the real thing. If I would have just done it right the first time I would not be on Jango 2.0 and would have saved some money,

    Just my two cents.

Interestingly enough, my EE-3 was the first thing I made. But since then I've gotten my jumpsuit (still needs to be modified), my helmet, which needs a visor and ear decals, and some unpainted chest armor. It's coming along for me. Just thought I'd share.

I actually would say start with the helmet if possible. It's the coolest part of the costume to be able to show people, IMO. Although the blaster does get some wows as well.

The Don post deluxe is quite expensive. The DP 95 would probably be most economical. Gotta love Ebay!
Search the threads and you'll do fine. Some people Make all their parts (besides helmets) while others buy their pieces. Depending on your time, money and skill level.
