Looks like a plastic resin, of the sort you might find toys made from. Does the surface feel slightly "waxy"?

Also looks like a really cool lid. After a little surface work it will look super.

yes i have a couple of air bubbles i have to fix i have a small crack in the bottom near the right mandable.i'm just trying to figure what i would use to repair it

I'm going to have to defer to the experts on this one. I would not do anything until you find out for certain what material it is made of. It could be a resin cast or a fiberglass helmet. I readily admit that I can't tell what it's made of.

My general suggestions would be:
Don't cut the T-slot out until you've finished all of your prep-work: sanding, cutting etc. It helps support the helmet. You could paint the T-slot visor area black to get an idea of what it will look like, but don't cut it out until you're ready to install a visor.

I'd recommend a Shade 5 welding shield instead of buying a ready-made T visor.
Get a dark green welding shield if you are making an ESB Fett, Smoke Gray if you are making a ROTJ. If you're making a Pre-Production suit, the color is up for debate, but I bought a dark green one for my PP2 helmet.

You will need to know what kind of material the helmet is made from so you can choose the right kind of filler ie: which type of bondo.

I think with some patience you will have a great looking bucket! :cheers

I'd really love to see progress pix of your helmet. BTW, which version Fett are you planning on making?

It's hard to tell from the pic of the inside, the flash washed out allot of color and detail, but it looks like it might be fiber glass, the yellow tint is from the resin glue. It kinda looks like a sgt fang recast to me, which for free is a good deal, can't beat free. Amidadfilter maybe? maybe a recast of one of his even. With some time and "love" it can be good. Definately don't cut the visor area out till you get everything else done prepwork wise.

OK, I'm going to show my lack of knowledge on this subject.

What is the difference between resin casts and fiberglass? :confused

Can you use fiberglass to reinforce the inside of a resin or sintra helmet?

Will two part bondo stick to both?

that's definately fiberglass. at least on the inside. Yes, you can fiberglass the inside of a resin cast to reinforce it. so it could be a resin cast with fiber glass reinforcement. I've never bondoed anything fiberglass, so I wouldn't be the best one to give advice there.

Now that I see the better pic I agree - fiberglass. The outside still looks like plastic resin though in the first pics. Anyway, regardless of what it is made of, it will be an awesome helmet when done.

Looking good!! It cleaned up nicely!
Just curious... how thick is in on the inside of the mandibles?
I'm curious to see your keyholes too... looks like you were off to a good start on those older pics of it with the silver coat.

Keep up to great work!
