Snowtrooper/Boba mystery... **PICS**

When I had a closer look on the snowtrooper helmet lately, I noticed something very interesting...

When you compare the snowtrooper helmet with Boba's helmet, it can clearly be seen that they look very much the same: The dome of the snowtrooper bucket is exactly the same as the one of our favorite bounty hunter. Even the "closing/venting slits" in the back of the helmet are totally the same. Also the ring around the head looks much like simoly being the same!

Both helmets must have been casted from the same mold. My suspicion is that Boba has the original mold, while the snowtrooper helmets were casted from it (because they needed much more of them in white). It seems likely that the bucket is some kind of German WW2 helmet, since confiscated, de-activated war material from WW2 was mainly used for props from the original trilogy!

I fixed your pics for you. Similar in design, but different. The dome of the snowtrooper is a lot taller for starters. Do you have any clearer shots of the "keyhole" slots on the back of the trooper helmet?

The AT-ST driver and General Veers' helmet also appear to be similar. My dad is a BIG WWII fanatic. I'll get him to do some checking. Hell, he can probably identify it at first glance.

Thanks alot for fixing my pics, BobaFettish.

There are hardly any pics of the back of the snowtrooper helmet. The only one I found (and already posted) is from one of the socalled "lost scenes" of the classic trilogy. If anybody has a clearer pic of the helmet's back, we could solve the secret whether the two buckets are related somehow or not.

You're right. It seems that General Veers, the Snowtroopers and the AT-ST Driver (and perhaps Fett?) all use the same type of helmet. Veers' helmet resembles Fett's very much, but it is definitely much wider at the edge. Perhaps they just heated the plastic and widened the neck-guard, I suspect.

More opinions on this topic are highly appreciate!

Well, BF is right, the dome is definitely not only deeper, but a much different shape as well.

As for the keyholes . . . looks to me like there are fewer keyholes in the snowtrooper than in fett. Looks like only 4 keyholes on the trooper.

Veers' helmet and the Snowtroopers are the same helmet. Veers (obliviously) doesn't have the eye lenses or the vinyl covering his face. Otherwise they are the same. Not sure about Fett though.

I'm pretty sure Veers AT-AT helmet was used from an old German WW2 helmet. But then again, all Lucas used back then was nothing but WW2 material, which also made the movies guns more interesting -

Ok, my dad checked out the helmets and this is what he came up with:
"I don't believe they are German helments that have been cut down. The crown is too round. The British had what was called a dispatch riders helment that was round and came down to about the top of the ears. They could have taken some of those and added the skirts to them. Or they could have moulded some plastic or fiberglass helments of their own design. The British dispatch riders helments are not as collectable as the German helment is, so they would not be destroying a collectors item."

Hope this helps...

Interesting discoveries... The thing about the rider's helmet got me an idea about using a biker's helmet for starting a bucket from scratch, because I have no helmet yet.

Perhaps a thing like this could be used for such an experiment?

Good opinion - IMO Lucas could have just molded the German helmet(s) & probably started makeing as much as needed. It would be a shame for them to destroy such an historical piece. So hopefully Lucas was smart enough to know that -

There were many, many, many german helmets made, and in different years, which provide subtle differences in design and shape. None of which, imho, were used on these. The crown doesn't resemble any kraut/Wehrmacht helmet I know of. The one exception may be a Fallschirmjaeger helmet. Do a search.

I don't think the ST/ATAT or any other Imperial service helmet resemble the Fett helmet in crown shape. As I have previously stated, I believe the closest existing headgear to Fett is the GI steelpot.
