    scratchbuild pvc helmet!

Hi!!, after a lot of time with zero progress, here my first atempt to scratchbuild a helmet...

THANKS TO WOTF FOR THIS INCREDIBLE TEMPLATES!!!!! (I donīt get tired of saying this, you are the templates freaking master!!!!

here, in Spain, I canīt find sintra( donīt even know how itīs called here) so, after the good and easy work that I find with PVC in my shoulder and knees armour, I start thinking in made a helmet with only PVC........after two days of cutting, melting, gluing and sanding, this is the result......

still a lot to do, but Iīm really happy with this so far.......what do you think, dented friends??

Sintra is basicly just a brand name for foamed PVC, which is slightly lighter and stiffer than regular PVC sheets. I haven't really had any luck with finding it locally either - so I'm using the regular stuff too.

But in any case; it's a great start, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out!

The sintra is more softly and cheaply that the pvc, and it is a less manageable the pvc than the sintra

instead of saying I need sintra to people, say I need a sheet of foamed pvc, sintra is a brand name.

Sintra is also the name of a town in Portugal, which is probably why it's not called that in Spain. I only know this because I kept getting hits for travel guides when I did web searches for "Sintra."

Here is what you need to ask for (it's called PVC Espumado, PVC Espuma, or Espuma de PVC in Spanish):

-"I ythink you've done a cracking job there. I'm curios as to how you made the dome though. Anyways more pics as it looks **** good."

-for the dome, I have divided it in 3 bigs strippes, and 4 triangled parts..
one (the biggest) goes from ear to ear....
the other 2, 1 from the back to the middle and 1 from the front to the middle...the 4 triangle parts fill the rest, just like a pizza..
I have used a hotgun to give the rigth curve to the strippes

sorry if my english is confusing and weird.....sometimes I can`t find the proper words to says what I think......

jaja, yes, for a moment I have think the same, cause the colors are simetricals...but really I have used them, cause the grey pvc is less thick than the orange, so it`s more easy to curve it...the orange is more thicker and solid....

that is truly brilliant that you were able to construct it with mostly just pvc. the only constructive criticism i can offer is that the front looks a little flat from the wide pvc cut from the dome

Man, that is IMPRESSIVE! I'll bet that bucket can take some abuse, too. Isn't PVC thicker and stronger than Sintra (foamed PVC)? What have you been using to cut and sand with?

well, SHunter, this bucket is very solid, this pvc is thicker than sintra ,I guess (cause here in spain I donīt find it yet to compare ), the grey pvc I have used, is 0,3 cm, and the orange one, is 0,4 cm.....
I have use a hand saw, and a dremmel in the difficult parts.......the pvc is easily sandable, just like wood..........
I donīt know how you glue the sintra, but the superglue work great in pvc....
    thanks for reading....
now Iīm cutting the shaped arrows!!!!

    Re: scratchbuild pvc helmet!

well, today I attach the leds inside, by the way, the transparent part in the RF is suposed to go illuminated too? cause I have put a big white light in, and was really cool........I donīt post it cause donīt know if itīs in the REAL BOBA, but itīs look realy cool( and in cause the light goes off, you could go around the house as a "walking lintern mando"...... )

well, here are the pics of the RF finished, also is a detail; the transparent part goes attached to the RF body, by a magnet, so it can be turn on-of real easy.....

and just to show you how much I like to work with pvc, I post the pics of one of the 3 pvc katanas, that I made just to try something new, and now I can say PVC, I LOVE YOU!!!

    :thumbup One word. Bravo.:thumbup

I've been reading through this and you've blown me away. I'm soon to start my bucket and I had my doubts but you've just shown that with some great patterns, a little know how, and patience it can be done.

    Well done fella.

Don't be so modest, I've seen some terrible buckets for sale in the past and people buy them.

As we've all been saying your's is pretty **** good for a scratchbuild.

Then again, maybe the suggestion was so that you'd have a more solid fibrglass bucket created from your vinyl master??

    Eitherway, it's a compliment.

How do you make a mold of your work and cast it? I've read a lot about it, but it's about as clear as mud to me.

****ing Awesome! You're one brave, patient and determined person to try and attempt to build a Boba bucket using pvc. Pvc is thick and hard, I can imagine very difficult to work with. How you managed to cut, shape and piece together a helmet out of this material is beyond amazing. And what's even more amazing is the end result. Your Boba helmet looks AWESOME! It looks battle-scarred like it's been in many fights and bounties, very authentic looking. Amazing job...I salute you.
