Scratch built bucket. Pics....One ear....

That is truly sweet, I love making stuff like that, so I'll probably make a boba helmet, is the helmet durable or flimsy...?

Well, the plastic is about 3-4 mm thick. With the curves and the epoxy all put together....i would say very strong. The Dome has a skeleton if you will, of this same plastic cut into thin strips, glued from the inside of the bucket..then about a 1/4 inch of bondo. I thought it would be heavier, but compared to my old kevlar, it's like nothing.

that's promissing, did you heat up the plastic before you bent it?

and what did you use to fill in the gaps in the dome, in between the strips?

- Thanks.

Little progress. Got base coats down. Excuse the pics, camera is such a piece of trash now. Believe me, these colors aren't that bold.

Wow . . . .I think you are miles away from being a Novice.

You are in the right place man!

Outstanding job on the bucket!

I decided to take a break from the fabrication process and paint. I'll do the ear pieces later. Anyhow, I washed the bucket with the accryllic black wash prior to doing all this and I think I may have to do it again to tone everything down, But I'm not sure. Once again, a terrible pic....suggestions on the tones greatly appreciated.

Thanks man, appreciate it. I still have a lot of paint to put on it, and the ears of course, Maybe I'm being a little picky on the color but i think it's real important to get this part right.

Very impressive! You're really moving along on that thing!
And I agree, it's really hard to believe that's scratch built. Can't wait to see the ears :)

Well, after all that work it seems my design has a fatal flaw with the dome construction. The layer of Bondo over the styrene skeleton just isn't going to cut the mustard. While installing the RF ear piece I noticed a small crack that will inherantly become a big crack and so on and so forth. Im going to start over again with a hard version and cast it. I'm still in the research stages and this seems to be the best route for a durable bucket that's wearable. I wasn't entirely satisfied with some of the dimensions anyways so ....off to work I go.
I think I'll give the one I made to the lady and she can make a nice planter out of it for the garden. lol.
