scratch building posterboard helmet

New Hunter
hey guys i'm new here and looking for a little advice. I'm using wizard's template to build my helmet out of bristolboard then fiberglass it just wondering if anyone has put the ear peices on afterwards or before fiberglassing it. That is to say fiberglass the helmet and the earpeices as one unit. I'll post picks as its coming. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't built a helmet from scratch before, but I would think if you glassed everything as one piece, you'd lose some of the definition between the parts.

ya i agree but i think with a little fancy sanding and bondo work it should be passable. The problem here is that if your costume/outfits look to good everyone thinks you bought it and if you enter any contests no one beleives you that you scrathbuilt anything. So i think my helm/bucket will not be looking as good as the rest of yours but should come out ok.

It depends, I've made my scratch build so the range finder goes up an down, so making the earcaps separately was the only way to do it so to make the rangefinder accessiable for maintainance. You might be able to get a way with making the large ear cap part of the fibreglassing proccess, though as you said you'll lose definition. I've had people look at my scracth build and ask where I got it from...then I show them the inside asd the card is still visible. If you want to make the rangefinder imoveable then I think you could do the entire helm as one piece.
