scratch build helemt, thinking out side the box

well since i read how to build armor out of trash cans. i figured that, that would make a great material to make a scratch build out of. i used
- a circular trash can ($8 at walmart)
- a hard plastic bowl ($1 dollar store)
- visor (harbor freight $5)
- and a ton of epoxy, liquid nails, and bondo lol
i filled the bowl surface with bondo and sanded it. i used templates and cut the trash can and then from there, glued the pieces in. Now i know this isn't anything close to a replica, but considering that its really sturdy i feel a sense of achievement(y). i feel as though it resembles the ESB look which i prefer. though the colors are rotj lol. i did this for a costume for the new movie coming out FanBoys. and i have to make a darth vader suit for a friend so i really didn't have alot of time to do it. but considering it took me about a week a total of 9 hours to do including paint i feel it came out very well. Now before you all post comments, i STILL need to do this
-finish paint i need to paint thesides of the helmets, and add some silver.
- glue the visor in a lil better
-re attach the range finder (broke off while tring to bring it to school)
- and it seems to have to be buldged out a bit its a lil flat in the front , idk:confused it weird
-also i need to cut the slots in the back of the helmet (sorry for my lack of vocabulary)
- fix the dent it looks as though someone took a .50 cal to it instead of a laser
but now since the whole costume is almost complete i want everything to go on a pvc maniquin to go in my room next to mame machine:D. well i guess thats enough writting for right now. heres the long awaited photos:

inside it is as ghetto as it getts but it works:lol:

It'd be great to see some progress pics. Or just one of the helmet before any paint was put on it.

The general shape looks awesome but you may have gone ott with the white.

Good job.

well thanks. i know i should repaint it..... looks like someone painted it with a spoon:wacko i have no real progress pictures however i have this photo that i took before i cut the T out to see how it looked.I know its hard to see but this is the best i could do. i never really thought about post a progress thread so the though of wasting time taking pictures never was relevant. now looking back it truly

wouldn't of been a "waste" of time but heres my best "progress" picture. enjoy:cheers

It would be cool if you made a new one with a tutorial like thread (it sounds cool to hear a trash can helmet ^_^)

correction i found old photos of it in its 1st stages. i found this looking through SD cards. the helmet in these photos look like the helmet is a wee bit small in diameter. that's before i cut it to fit the bowl/dome top. as you can see from the first on it is the open mouth part of a garbage can:lol: hope these either help or spark an interest. much appreciated slimguy379

greg this is looking great. just need to touch up the paint like you said. but all in all i think im going to buy the materials, come up and hope you will help me with it lol.

sounds great send me a message:cheers. as listed above the whole project cost me probably around $20 new, so if you have spare expoxy, paint, and bondo thats $10s off right there and for the quality and the stability of it, is great the only regret i have is makeing the randge finder stem out of wood, obviously i learned my leason:(.

here is a shot of all my helmets so far, (so far lol)

I am looking to make my own bucket and this has given me a new way of going about making one. Great job. Some more photos of the construction would be great.....
