Saw this on Ebay ....

Hey everyone, I saw this on Ebay and wasn't sure of it's origin. The seller says it's a possible Don Post recast, but, he believes it to be larger than a DP. It is made out of fiberglass. Anyone have any ideas ?

Well, the detail in the dent tells me it probably isn't a recast of a regular DP. Unless the mold was modified for more detail.

It also doesn't have the look of a DP Deluxe recast either. Did he say where he got it?

it's a mystery helmet. I'm pretty sure..The only weird thing is that the mystery helmet is made out of resin, not fiberglass.

That's exactly what I was thinking about it too. Makes me wonder if someone recast a MH in fiberglass...I don't think the originator of the MH would be too happy about that.

So, does anyone think this will fit my head? I've had problems with certain helmets smashing my nose into the visor, OUCH! What is the depth fron to back on the MSH2 and the Mystery helms?

So technically its a recast of a recast. Nice.
I thought the MH was a recast of a recast, this could be the recast of a recast of a recast... argh!

And to answer your question, I don't think you'll have any problem getting your noggin inside one of these especially not on the MSH-2. You'd have to have an Andre the Giant sized head for that not to fit.

I just got an email back from the seller, the auction ended and I didn't win. He may have a few more on hand though. He says that this helm was made while an original helmet was on hand at Don Post to make their Deluxe helms (this story sounds vaguely familiar). He is a 501st member and didn't give me much more info than that. I'm thinking of buying one from him if I can't get my hands on a MSH2 or Mystery helm. BTW, anyone know where I can get one of those larger helmets from? PM me PLEASE.

ARGH! I am so sick of hearing stuff like this! I would ask him if he has one SHRED of proof and if not that he shouldn't be selling it as such!

There is another prominent seller who claims his helmet has a similar background but when questioned on it his only proof was that someone else (someone who know virtually nothing about Fett) told him so... :( It is a sad world where people lie and deceive just to try to make an extra buck or two.

I agree, there seems to be an awful lot of "oh it was re-cast of an original/screen used/fashioned by lucas himself whilst in a trance" type things going around, and the evidence appears to be that "a friend of a friend's brother's wife's auntie's dog's previous owner knew some guy who worked at the studios", or similar.

:rolleyes

The second line of your sig springs to mind, Brak's.

HI Guys,
It looks like it was just cast...

I can find out but I think the DP loan helmet mold was cast with the ears on...

just a thought

I sold some armor to a guy who's story went from "Cast off a screen used helmet" to "Cast off a Mystery Helmet" and in reality his helmets looked more like DP Deluxe recasts. Great workmanship but the story seemed a little too flexible.
