Rubies repaint for Lexusnyny by Deadland

Yeah when I first saw the pictures of it from Lex I was like there is no possible way that this is how they sell it. But low and behold it was just sad at least make some kind of attempt even if little to make it look some what right.

The paint job was completed by rescaling Count Dookies templates and using some of my own from that I have made from the reference photos.

Again thanks for the complements guys

I hate Rubies. They have have really cheapened the sport and their advertised products are so much different that their shipped products. I learned that the hard way with a TK I bought a few years back. However... Deadband, you did an excellent salvage of that bucket. You would never know it's a Rubies and I think it looks great. You did an excellent job on the scratch, which for some readon has always been the hardest for me to get just right. Good job!

On a local note, it's hot in So Cal today. I'm in Riverside and it's already in the low 90's. What Murrieta like today?

When I got the thing It looked like a 8 year old with ADD painted it with one finger, at least I know that my novice painting skills will look better than the **** rubies puts out.

No, a kid with ADD would have done a better job, trust me, (I have ADD)

Riverside good to see, well at the office right now in Temecula it is about 92 and hit 111 yesterday so I have a feeling it will much of the same. There are a few other guys here on the board that are in Temecula we should all get toghther smoe time and talk shop.

Which Rubies is this and how much did it cost? I might be interested in getting one and doing a repaint like this. I'm just looking for something that looks acceptable sitting on my shelf. I was thinking about getting a FP Budget helmet but this would probably be a cheaper route to go.

Great work BTW Deadland.

I believe this is the helmet that comes with the Supreme Boba Fett costume. I don't believe that the helmet is available separately. The costume is about $500 or so. The FP budget may be the easier way to go in your case

I fell for the same thing. Going through a process of repainting / replacing the Supreme Edition I bought. How did you change the visor!? I have purchased a new one from Daz (in the post) the Rubies one is almost transparent but looks like it won't come out too easy...

I had to cut it out with a dremel and then cut a new visor that I purchased from the local welding shop and cut it to fit.

This is amazing. I am considering buying the Rubies costume as a temp. costume. I need one by Halloween, then over time, hopefully before the 2012 3D releases, I can start replacing the parts with the higher quality fan made items I see everyday on here. But definitely going to attempt a weathering and repaint on the rubies costume before I will wear it for halloween. Maybe if I can lay some good work down I might be able to at least get my money back reselling it to someone just starting out like me, that is once I don't need it anymore.

This is an awesome job. I was also struck by how aweful and cheap the rubies costume was in general...espescially for the price. I am curious though....how does one go about ordering something from FP? I have been to their website and half of it appears to be in another language....possibly latin.
