RS - Retrofitting and repainting MR helmet

Fingers crossed and thanks for the optimism. I haven't painted a helmet since the MR protos but I will be using out of the bottle colors and I will be masking the entire helmet in the spirit of the originals.

This should be a real boost for anyone else thinking about doing the same. I can't think of anyone else better fit for this task and showing us the way ;)

Definitely gotta watch this! Trying to figure out how to fix the visor without having to do any damage.

I'm eager to see this too. Not sure if I have the guts to rip the padding out of my MR and replace the visor...may have to outsource it.

Yeah we'll see what kind of fire I'm dipping myself into, however the goal is to replace visor and add proper aluminum clips and brass screws.

I got the technique to work beyond my expectations on the 2nd Mr proto. I was mosty concerned with the scratches turning out accurately and I got it to work.

Forgive the question, but what is wrong with the MR helmet? Now, I'll be the first to admit that I am the type of person who says, "close enough." If there are some very glaring errors, I can understand that. But if it's "the scratch on the bottom of the mandible on the left side is 2 centimeters shorter than it should be" then that's something for those requiring absolute screen authenticity for their bucket. I love my MR bucket and think it's one of the nicest pieces of my collection.

Forgive the question, but what is wrong with the MR helmet?...

...It's a trap!

Seriously though, there are a few threads discussing the flaws with the helmet. Mainly the mandible alignment and visor which isn't quite dark enough for some. Although I'll admit I don't really understand the repaint. If it's going to be painted RotJ for example, sure. But if it's an ESB repaint why not just get a cheaper helmet from someone here and have Lee paint it? Then there'll be no mandible issue. It may be an excellent sculpt. But it seems like a lot of money and work to make changes as drastic as those compared to gettin' a good old fashioned TDH bucket.

EDIT: wow, that turned into a rant really quick... apologies!

Basically my client wants a hand painted helmet and the visor alignment tweeked. Not really to say there is anything wrong with it but some folks just don't care for the visor thing mostly. Personaly it would drive me nuts.

Ok check the color list post. Again, Caveat Emptor. It's what I will be using on this helmet.

Also it can't go without mention but Tyler D (Dan) and I worked on this together. We both have had this angst with the how unstable POG is. So thanks Dan.

"* German Field Gray or Panzer Olive Green (Cheeks and dome) court is out on this one but GFG is a very old Floquil and was produced back in the day but not now so you'll have to buy it from Tamiya."

is this the updated info? I've looked at that post so many times and seen it change a little over time... so you are using German Field Gray for the dome and cheeks then?
