@Edrrak Nolat- my pack is on the heavy side and I have not noticed any movement in the hooks. The hooks are on the thicker side and were a challenge to bend!
@Rafalfett- As always thank you for the encouragement and motivation! Pacing along here..
@Jc27- I got and old vintage Riot helmet off of Ebay for 25$ and just cut the straps out. It is not 100%, but i think it will work for now!

Re: Esb to Rotj Build Up

So I got some work done today! I decided to start on making some arms for my half-mannequin before starting on the gauntlets.
I went to my local HD and picked up some 1/2" pvc pipe and connectors. I also got 2 metal flanges and the pvc connectors for them. these will serve as a way to connect the arms to the body.
    20130713_152331-jpg
I also found a water noodle thing for the pool, that was a perfect size to mimic an arm. I made a wedge out of the noodle and will use this inbetween the flange and the mannequin body. I drilled holes through everything and used a machine bolt to tighten everything up.
    20130713_152357-jpg20130713_160404-jpg
Next I cut the pvc pipes to the length of my upper arm and forearm, and used the appropriate connectors.
    20130713_152953-jpg
Then I cut sections of the pool noodle, and sculpted the forearm into shape with a box cutter blade.
    20130713_152425-jpg20130713_153624-jpg20130713_162740-jpg
And finally all put back together! The arms are customizable by changing out the joints I can make them do pretty much what I want. Once I have some rotj gloves (wink wink to anyone with a pair) I will position the arms to their finally location.

Added a couple parts to the gauntlets and painted the flamethrower box. The nozzles are not in the right spot yet, since they are not permanently installed.

    Been awhile, lots of updates!
I finally built some legs, and got some hands. Purchased cod/knees/boots. Still need to weather boots, but I painted up the cod/knees, and made a custom kidney plate and painted. I have almost finished the guantlets, about 98% done. I do still have to either get a jumpsuit or custom build pockets for mine. I am also still missing shin tools. I have a set of Mojo toe spikes on the way, so i will weather boots when the spikes arrive.

I received some Mojo toe spikes, and started to weather my Mow boots. I bought some acrylic paint, and made washes to weather the boots. In person the boots have much more blue/purple hues to them. The darker area are weathered with brown and black paints. once they were dry i hit everything with testors clear coat.

You don't necessarily 'need' to use grommets, just because Lucasfilm did. You can be fine with velcro, snaps, or magnets as well.

I have magnets now and hate them! I have Velcro for the shoulders and hate that too! I love the idea of the grommets, they are not that hard to put in and they guarantee the armor is not going anywhere! and yes they are screen accurate too!

Cool. Back when I made my costume, everyone used velcro or snaps because nobody really knew how the LFL armor was attached. I've been trooping with velcro for 14 years and haven't ever had a piece fall off during a troop. Been that way through 2 sets of armor, and now I just got a new vest and went right back to velcro again because I guess I figure all those bolts on the inside of your vest against your chest wouldn't feel that comfortable to be trooping with for hours on end.

Against the vest, I used that industrial sticky-back velcro, but then also backed that with Walther's Goo contact cement. Against the armor plate would be just the other half of the industrial velcro.

Thanks, i don't know, i am debating on what to do here. Velcro is alot easier and has room for adjustment i imagine, while the gromets have to be exact! Meditate on this i will,

Re: Esb to Rotj Build Up

OK so I have a few updates...
I purchased two things from ebay...
First was a set of resin cast shin tools. Now in the picture they looked a lot better than what i recieved. The paint job was terrible! I barely touched them and all the paint flaked off. Whoever painted them forgot to remove the mold release!! But i think i was able to save them with a quick repaint..
    20130902_233854-jpg
I also bout an EE-3 kit... I was really worried about this purchase, but the kit turned out to be half way decent. The nose cone is alittle long, and the aluminum handle connector is a bit small, but overall i am happy with it. Shipping on the other hand was a nightmare!! I paid for 2 day shipping, and this came over a month later, and on top of that, the seller just threw, resin pieces, into a box and slapped a fragile sticker on it. There was no bubble wrap or even newspaper, just resin pieces bouncing around. this pack job boggled my mind, i could not believe someone could do that. When it finally came to me the handle to the gun was snapped off, most of the fins were chipped and the stock greeblies were smashed. BUT with some glue, screws and some love I got this to a usable piece i think!

Re: Esb to Rotj Build Up

    Quick update:
I got my jetpack greeblies in and painted. I have to install the ones on the bottom still and do some weathering with white paint, but I am one step closer to being done. any feedback is welcome!
    20130915_171433-jpg20130922_182101-jpg
edit: ok so after comparing mine to the reference, there are a few minor tweaks to be made.
first , there are only 4 screws holding the door on and they appear to be allen head not flat head. and they are painted blue.
next, the co-axial greeblie with the four bolts is HUGE!! I am going to make one to scale in cad and have it printed.
finally,I will paint the top hooks blue, leaving areas of the metal showing through.
    more updates to come...

Re: Esb to Rotj Build Up

OK.. so i went and made some changes to my jetpack...
    First,
    20130920_191828-jpg
I changed the location of the back greeblies, and i changed of the coaxial connection one, for the real deal. The real part is much smaller than the resin piece...
    20130922_133650-jpg20130922_140031-jpg20130922_182101-jpg
finally i added a beacon light, ( this was a bm resin beacon that i hollowed out. removing the screw inside it was not fun!!!!!) and wired a push button on the bottom of the pack. i removed a set of screws on the backplate, to make four allen head screws..

    20131002_001421.jpg
Next is a shot of the button used to turn on the beacon light, and the beacon lit up. the light is very dim, I think i may have used a higher transitor than needed.
    20131002_001533.jpg20131002_001545.jpg
and a final shot with helmet on. I have a SK servo kit on the way so I have the stalk off for now. more updates to come....
    20131002_0023512.jpg

Re: Esb to Rotj Build Up

Been awhile, but have a few updates....
I wasn't too happy with the color of my boots, so i darkened them up a bit... I have the MOW with the black elastic on the sides, which seem to just soak up the fabric paint wash I used to weather the rest of the boots. It is too cold here to rattle paint, soo i guess i will be waiting for a warm day to come!
I got my RKD v3 chest/collar/shoulder armor in, and they look great IMO
I also modeled a set of gauntlet darts and EE-3 ROTJ scope mounts in Sketch-up and I am having them 3d printed now, should be here mid- December. For $20 shipped for 4 darts, and 2 mounts, won't be a total loss if they don't turn out.
Anyway, here is what I have so far (minus the Kcr7pr harness that just arrived)
