ROTJ Bucket

Well It hs been a while sinc Iposted any progress on my ROTJ Boba...I know I am pretty bad at keeping up on progress:lol:. Well, I am pretty much done with the Fett but wanted to showoff my full ROTJ bucket.

I started with the idea of making everything screen accurate but the weathering was too clean for my tastes. The silver if the referenc epic looked painted on and that bothered me, so I added a little more dirt to it. I know it's not 100% screen but what do you all think for a 501st Fett?

All Feed back is greatly appreciated. Le tme know if you like it and even if you dont.

So on to the pics. The original weathering first then the added dirt second.....

Thanks! I showed it off to some of my firends who dont really know Star Wars and their response was that it looks real. Which is what I was going for. Just not sure how it would be accepted for a 501st Fett. I would assume it would work but it's not screen accurate weathering. Than again if you focused that much on it I think you may go insane LOL.

What are you sayin'? I'm crazy?
I think it should be fine for 501st approval. I have seen worse get accepted.
Depends on your GML though.

So from your experence on Fett (ROTJ) how woudl you rate it and why? Looking for honest feedback.

BTW...not saying your crazy but it sure would have made me crazy.

I love the added weathering!!! the dirtier the better! I always wanted to see a Fett done after he crawled out of the Sarlaac pit!!! down, beaten, but still standing!!

Of course! The weathering was taught to me by EVO3 he is here on TDH and he is also a squadmate for the local area. I owe him all the credit to the weathering. Without him I would have never even began to figure out how to get that look. So THANKS EVO!!!!!

But as to how i weathered it up, I used 2 dry stiff brush (with a fat tip and pointed tip all thin) and burnt umber oil paint. Basically get a VERY small amount on the dry brush and stippled around the silver. Then dab with cotton ball to smooth it out (useually blotting or rubbingin tiny circles). Also focues on any place where grud would likely form. Edges, holes, uplifts all need to be weathered. Think of it as if you are looking at the helmet and poured a stain on it. where would the water settle and thus discolor? what parts would remain clean and what would be the dirtiest? Once you have a plan go with it! Essentally Fett is out in the climate so he is going to get all dirty.

The key is to think how it would look if it was a REAL helmet. If you were to have paint chipped off, the silver under would not be protected and this tarnish and have a really worn look to it towards the outside lighting up as it goes in towards the center. Since screen Fett was a just a thrown in character, not much detail was put into the painting to make it look lifelike. So when you see Fetts (personal opinion) the weathering looks fake. I wanted it to look real. And hope I accomplished it! Also weathering up the armor to match. So hopefully will be posted pics of that soon as well.

Hope that answers your question and am glad you enjoyed it! It is something different so wasen't sure how it would be taken on a 501st level. But I liked it and can't wait to take it to an event as see some reaction!

Kepp the feedback coming!

I think it looks good. Like you said, the weathering is not exact to the screen used one, but in my opinion it is not in such a way that is is distracting. You've got the major colors basically right, the damage patterns right, just a bit of stylistic rust.

It could be the pics, but the green on the back seems a bit... mintier? Than the screen used. Not hugely off, but a little.

I don't see a problem for 501st approval there.
