Rogue Studios' ESB Color list & Painting Techniques

Another good question to ask would be what color is the rear ventilation area on the back of the helmet?

Looks like it could be Boxcar Red but it could also be a Maroon of some kind too.

OK, so I know that I have to thin out the paints for airbrushing. What is recommended to get here. Does it matter if it says it is for acrylics or enamel. I saw 1/4 oz. containers on the testors site for 2.99 a pop. That doesn't seem like much of a deal considering all of the painting I will be doing. I'll have to get a suitcase of the stuff. They also have "Floquil - Polly Scale Airbrush Thin 16 Oz." for 7.99, a far better deal. Can I use this or is it the wrong stuff. Just a tad bit confused and lacking knowledge here.:confused Can someone please shed some light.:facepalm Thanks a bunch.

Hey there, I need some help.

I'm tracking down the colors for the ESB helmet and was hoping someone that's gotten them can give me the numbers for a couple of the paints

RLM Green (There seems to be a couple on the Paint charts, I'm not sure which one)

Euro Dark Green (I've found Dark Green, not Euro Dark Green)

Either the Floquil or Polly S will work. Man this is very enjoyable to me. Painting will start soon.

OK, here's a quick question, I finally been able to secure these paints in Sweden (wasn't easy).

Anyway, I know that the Euro Dark green is only listed as unsure for the back of the helmet but I ordered it anyway. The only one that seems to carry that color is Model Masters (acrylics) so that's what I ordered. When I tried it out next to the Panzer green I was a bit surprised! To me it just looked way to much like the Panzer green, only a tad darker. It also seems to lack a lot of the blue tone that I expected it to have. All the ref pics seems to have the back green/blue much darker then the dome and cheeks.

Any thoughts? Have anybody actually used this paint on a finished bucket? Did I get the wrong paint?

Any help would be great.:)

Steve.

I've found all the colors except the RLM Green, and PRR Green. Are these Polly Scale/Floquil colors? Testors Acrylic?

Prr Green is Floquil/Polly S (one in the same doesn't matter)..the other is Testors (technically all brands are Testors since Testors owns all three). Acrylic/Enamel..I use Acylic although I have been told Enamels were used on the Jedi and prepro helmets.

So we got the chrome (bright silver) scratches, the grey scratches...what about the purplish-grey scratches around the mandible?

PRR Maroon need to add a little black to it to darken if you don't use acrylic coate. You guys know where to send the Super Bowl tickets right?

Just wondering what everyone used as a protective coating on their helmets after they were finished painting it all.

Duracoat? Clearcoat of some kind?

Rogue:
Thank for this info man! :) I'm also curious, I painted my mandibles with Floquil Tuscan. Is that color close to Boxcar Red? I just don't want to repaint this if the colors are fairly the same! But if it's totally different, please tell me!

If anyone other than RogueStudios could also confirm this, I'd greatly appreciate it :D

Cheers,
Bobo

Bobo,

I don't know how much weight my opinion holds on this matter but I used the same Tuscan as you and I swear its on! Someone else may say otherwise but I can't tell the difference.

Yeah, I think I followed your lead with the Tuscan. And ofcourse, your opinion is VERY heavy ;) Any opinion which helps holds weight!

So did you visually compare the two? The reason I ask is because now I'm starting to think that maybe Tuscan is a little too brown and not enough red? I hope I'm wrong.

My personal opinion is that Tuscan has too much brown-- a little more coffe than rust-like.

I went through the testor's site while ordering my paints i wrote up a shopping list with part numbers.

Helmet (Empire version)
* Panzer Olive Green (Cheeks and dome) F505113
* Boxcar Red (mandibles) F414281
* UP Armor Yellow (Verticle stripes) F414170
* MILW Road Orange (Verticle stripes) F414152
* SP Lark Dark Gray 'unsure' (Gray around scratches) F414182
* Rust (various locations) F414323
* Chrome (scratches) I think this was actually a color called bright silver but this works best.
* Euro Dark green 'Unsure' back of helmet. 4729 (Model Master)
* Panzer dark yellow (Rangefinder ear) if you do not have aluminum ears you will need to mix a silver with this to tone it down. F505111
* RLM Green (Left ear) 'unsure' F505056
* PRR Green (Inside cheeks) this is practically black. F414164
* Rock Island Maroon (Red scratches on left ear). F414248
* Light Gray (on left ear) any light gray will do. F505061

Yeah, I was worried about that :(
Thanks lordfett, that'll help :)

So, before I make my decision on repainting or not, does anyone maybe have a side by side picture comparison of the Tuscan vs. Boxcar?

Cheers,
Bobo

*BUMP*

Oh yeah, and I also wanted to know whether I should rub that dark wash stuff onto the armor, jet pack and other parts as well?

Other than that, I'm also wondering what is the best thinner to get for my airbrush...since I've never used one :p
(should I use my airbrush for all my suit?)

Thanks!
Bobo

I added the costs up for the list that Lord Fett made a few posts up. Going through the http://www.testors.com, the total came too, not including shipping, around $42.48 Just thought I would give you guys a rough price sketch... - Tim Allen
