Fantastic work again Brian!
Fantastic work again Brian!
I had the pleasure of seeing Brian's latest helmet in person today and it was a thing of beauty. That has to be the BEST ROTJ I've EVER seen! GORGEOUS!
Thanks for the compliment!
I've got the outer earcap finished:
And I've started a scratch built RF topper. I want to finish up the ESB helmet I started
I started off with the WoF template, and then modified it down to the MR size. The WoF one was anout 1/4" longer and a bit less than an 1/8" taller.
Now I've got to bondo it up!
Looking really good Brian... very good indeed!
(so thats what you look like)
Great stuff man, love the ear cap. I am fixing to have to figure out what I want to do with that top ear cap my self.
I've got a container of smoothon's aluminum resin stuff to make some ears out of once I'm confident. It's pre-mixed with the powder for the perfect coldcast look.
Once I get everything tuned just right I'll break it out!
BTW, the aluminum stuff from smoothon, is what I got, it is more of a nickel than aluminum. I also did not like the results. I buy my power from http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZpkunlimited I have had good luck with it. Just remember to wear something to protect your lungs. Breathing in the power is not good. Cruzer found that you will need over 100% power per resin!
I don't think eating the power would hurt. Just breathing it. It might need salt.
the somewhat scratch built RF topper is done, i hope.
i demolded this morning and poured one on my way out. i have a couple of bubbles in the silicone that i'm not real happy with, but they are really minor... not worth remaking the mold over.
here's hoping it comes out well.
i did something heretical last night while i was waiting for silicone to set:
it's painted, not rub n buffed. i was curious how it would look as a jango, and i have that pile of misfits.
this one has about 2 pounds of bondo in the dome... the whole top was flat. i demolded it too soon, and while pulling the rubber off, i actually flattened the dome a bit.
At this rate your gonna have a lid for every day of the week!
rub n' buff it!
i probably will buff it. the more i look at it, the more i'd like to see it done up that way.
my only concern is that the surface is anything but smooth. it's actually more sort of... um... moonlike?
i don't know that i'll be able to even get much of a shine on it.
(i'm holding it slightly behind the MR in that shot, which is why it looks smaller)
And the helmet on my head.
Man, this is fun watching! Great work!
Is that painters tape on the earcap screen accurate? :P
Lol love the work you have done... have you got any hi def/detailed pics of those scratches you made on the helmet, as im planning on doing those to my Bobamaker helmet once it gets here.. Im guessing you did those with a dremel cutting disk?
I did my first helmet in 2 days, using Tamiya Aerosols, and it didnt look as good as that... Kudos to you my friend
But yeah if you have any hi def pics of those scratches and can send them my way thatd be great dude
Most of my reference pics come from here:Alcafalath said:

The back right side of the RotJ helmet isn't covered in that gallery.
There's also the reference disk that you can get off of the home page here, with even more than that. The missing part of the RotJ is on the CD.
For the ESB helmet, I use Darth Miller's C4 Fett pics:
Great stuff Brian!
Agreed that the blue tape is non-cannon...
Why I can't see the pics in high-resolution?
Grat work on the ESB helmet, RotJ too
Dude!, is that Cheech in the glass cabinet behind you bro???
very nice work on the Helmet, very nice.
I meant for 'that' helmet you just did, in the primer stage cutting out the scratches, if you did any photos of all the surfaces and the cuts you made, whilst still in primer... Im planning on doing the same thing with my helmet when it gets here, and Id love to be able to have it look as good as yours does...
Btw you did use a dremel tool right? If so what one?
