    re-hash bucket

    Hi Guys,

I was never entirely happy with my old scratch built bucket, that I planned to cast (see the attached pic with the silicone mold). The dimensions were very slightly out and a few other bits just didn’t hit the mark (and as I built it, I always noticed them). Anyways, I decided to start again using Alan’s templates as a base point. I have the basic base shape sorted and I am in the process of cleaning it up and filling the gaps. I have a skateboard helmet on order for the dome and plan to quarter and extend it.

Sorry to those of you who are waiting for me to pull some fibreglass copies out but just bare with me a little longer, the wait will be worth it I promise.

    Re: re-hash bucket

    Cheers Chris and Gav.

One of the main things i think i will do differently on this one is that i won't make the 'T' visor aperture on the male mold. I plan to score the shape into the bucket but that is it. This way when i make the fibreglass copies, all i have to do is trim the visor shape out, and it will hopefully leave a nice flat, thin edge to the visor aperture (something ppl with a DP will hopefully appreciate)

    Re: re-hash bucket

Well i have almost finished tidying up the bucket and will hopefully have some pics soon (might be a slight delay as my wife is currently in hospital after suffering a very nasty fall)

In the mean time Mojo Fett has offered to supply me with the ears and RF to cast. So these bad boys will be supplied with the finished bucket. I really can't enough about these items, they are stunning. I think i have my work cut out to get the bucket up to the same quality Thanks Gav spread the good karma

    anyways people watch this space.

    Re: re-hash bucket

    Hi Guys,

a quick update. I will have the 'finished' pictures of the bucket by the end of the week. I have been playing nurse to my wife over the last few days and will have to carry on with that duty for the next few months. However she understands that i want to get this bucket into production ASAP and is being very understandable in the circumstances. I will post the pictures on Tuesday the 4th September (thats when i am back at work and have access to the net again).

only a matter of days guys, sorry for the delay

jeez, i hope its worth the wait

    Re: re-hash bucket

Well its come along a little bit more. it is still very rough and needs a bit more filling and a lot of sanding but i am quite happy with it. I would have goten further with it but playing nurse to my wife at the mo, seems to be taking up more of my time than i anticiptated

Anyways, i will be taking a silicone mold of this sucker this week (all going well), and then hopefully be able to pull a couple of buckets during the next fortnight.

    Re: re-hash bucket

    Cheers Dan

its looks really messy at the moment, but once it has been sanded a little more and has got a lick of primer over it, i think it will be a bit more pleasing to the eye

i also have to put the dent in it (thats one of the last things i plan to do though).

Its approximately the same size as my mystery bucket, so has tons of room inside

    Re: re-hash bucket

    Hi guys and gals,

i have reworked the dome on my bucket a little. Before it was slightly too high and pointed. So i have reduced the top of the dome by about 10mm and i am in the process of sanding and shaping (i plan to shave an extra 3-4mm off the apex of the dome at the back of the lid as well). Any critism is welcome so i can get this sucker right.

Thanks for asking Andy. She is doing a lot better now, although she still has a long way to go. She will be starting treatment in about 4 weeks time to start walking again. She is not looking forward to it as there isn't much of her original ankle left now and we are hoping that the ankle will still move as it should but there is so much metal in there now we are not holding our breath. thanks for the asking though

Great work. I hate to even say anything after all of your hard work. I noticed that the ear pieces were not lining up on your helmet the same way as in the films. The overall shape is looking good though.

    Re: re-hash bucket

Mandalorefett - thanks for the comments without people pointing things out to me, the helmet will never be as good as i want it to be. I have addressed the ear problem already (see the attached pics). The problem was i was using a set of old ears i had lying around and these were slightly too short. I have since made a new set as per the pics

I have also added the dent (still to be tidied up though).

Thanks for the kind words Andy . I will be selling fibreglass copies of this lid once i am happy with it (hopefully in the next couple of weeks). Its not just a money making exercise though, i just want to produce a lid that is good and people would want to own (at an affordable price)

    spread the good karma

I think the dent is very slightly oversized, and that is making it look a little too low. I measured off an exisitng bucket i have and the dent is 47mm from the brow and 33mm from the centre line of the dome. Mine has been installed to these dimensions but just looks a litle off I guess i will have to live with it.

The molding didn't go ahead this weekend as my local supplier had run out of silicone

so the lid just sat there waiting. I did go over it again and ironed out a few niggles with it though. Anyways this is the finished product (I think)

Excellent work!! Truly a helmet to be proud of! Especially since you built it yourself. Now it time to built your very own collection of various Fett Helmets.

Good luck with the rest of the process.

cheers Alan, and yep i will try to get the complete collection of Fett paint schemes now. The one i am really looking forward to painting up is the pre-pro 'eyes' version (although that will mean filling in the dent that i spent so much time creating )

    Re: re-hash bucket

Sorry guys, but no picture updates at the moment. All the siliconing is done and the plaster jacket is in place. I will be buying the fibreglass materials this weekend and then attempting (for the first time ever) to cast a bucket. As soon as i have casted lid i will post pics and see if any of you are interested. I am in two minds as to whether to just sell the raw casts stright from the mold or to clean them up and put the visor mounting bolts and visor in them etc not sure yet.

    Re: re-hash bucket

Sorry for the delay guys, but i have been moving jobs (and i am about to move companies again in the next couple of days). So in a word i have been really really busy.

I have got the first cast out at long last but probably won't get the others out till after xmas now

I really am so sorry for anyone waiting for these.

I will try my hardest to get them to the people who have been waiting a while.

    thanks for being patient

    Re: re-hash bucket

Well i am really doing my swede on this project I initially cast a fg lid about a month ago and it didn't quite come out as planned. I have now tried again and i think the problem is that my silicone mold is too thin. I now plan to thicken my silicone mold and try again

The problem at the moment is the mold is 'blowing inwards' and distorting the shape of the fibreglass and gel coat

Well the first has literally been pulled from the mold. Its a bit rough but after being cleaned up i am sure it will be great.

btw my lid is the white one. The good looking lid in the background is a Terminal Fettler lid

its a real bummer for sure. I ended up putting on some extra thick silicone rather than more thin layers (until now i didn't even realise you could buy different thicknesses of silicone).
