    Jul 25, 2014, 1:03 PM - Rattle Can/ Acrylics Idea. #1

I have some tubed acrylic paints (I went to an art college). I'm wondering what your guys' suggestions are Rattle Can over free hand paint brush, etc or a combination of both paintbrush and rattle cans. My other question was whether or not you can age/ fade paint by leaving it in the sun or can you wipe something on it to rapidly age the paint and get it faded out and worn almost naturally? All of my kit is in steel, do I need to put a clear coat sealant on it after I'm done to protect my work or does that leave it with a fake shine/luster?

Youll want to use a matte clear or dullcoat from testors works best really

Ok thanks, how're testors rattle cans? I've seen a company called "Montana Cans" that looks like they have a wide variety of colors.

Testors doesnt have any direct colors that are 100% the right colors...they bought the company that DID...which stinks cause they discontinued the lineup of colors...

What's the story with this Floquil stuff everyone is talking about?
  6. Jul 26, 2014, 10:14 AM - Re: Rattle Can/ Acrylics Idea. #6

That's what F4R is talking about. Floquil was bought by testors and discontinued the line. They are railroad color enamels (and some acrylic enamels) closest you can get IMO is Humbrol and some model masters colors. You may have to mix colors to get a good match. They should be applied with airbrush . I personally wouldn't recommend using tubed acrylics. You won't be able to get the proper smooth finish and you'll have to dullcoat it also

Isn't humbrol a UK-only line? I live in the US so that might be a problem

What do you guys recommend for airbrushes? Anything inexpensive? I know skies the limits but I'm on a tight budget for this sort of thing for my first couple builds. I saw some kit for $50 from harbor freight, while I'm sure it's garbage I'm unsure what a decent kit would cost.

Awesome, so these are used in an airbrush correct? What paints have you had the best luck with color-wise?

If your going ESB check out terminal fettlers thread here:
