RafalFett's Boba Fett Helmet Template Project

Today I made the ears and it looks really good, altough is just a prototype. Sorry for the poor images made with my phone at work.

I could have done the ears of others template, but my goal is to do a scratch build helmet from start to finish. So here is how I made the ear templates.

That's it for now. I'll try to finish the dome or the cheak area. See you soon.

Respect!

Hello!

Today I made the dome. But this ain't a perfect one and it's not glued on... It needs some adjustments to it.

dsc05320w.jpg dsc05321o.jpg dsc05324f.jpg

So I cut the dome in 8 sections with 3 slice each, then started to glue the pieces on the dome frame.

Dsc05325.jpg dsc05327x.jpg

And here is the helmet with the finished dome. It's much better than before...

dsc05328t.jpg dsc05329y.jpg dsc05330e.jpg dsc05331m.jpg

This is not a perfect dome and it will be fixed later. I know you will say that the dome is a little bit big and it's fused with the red rim, but remember that this is just a prototype.

Next on the menu... The cheek bones.

Hi!

In the past few days I worked on the cheek area and after several failed attempts I managed to do them properly. I also made a new 'face' for the helmet but not before I resized it to 105%. It's a little bit big, and the back plate is small compared to the 'face', but you've got the idea. I also remade the ears to fit on the new 'face'.

So, here it is.

Doing some great work there mate,
Do you recon you could slap a ruler against the right ear and grab a pic
and also as you are going to such trouble, did you deepen the upper cheeks from the WOF templates,
on the real helmets they go in much deeper, its really hard to get the dimentions from a pic , so i dont know if you have changed it already but its just a thort

Thanks, jinto! Yes, I made the cheeks deeper into the helmet. I can measure the ears, but as I said before, this is a small scale prototype. But here it is...

dsc05345a.jpg

Today I made the dent. It looks good for a first try. First, I made an incision to the dome to extract the front right slice, then cut the hole for the dent.

Next on the menu... The rear keyhole or the rangefinder.

Thanks again, jinto!

Well, today I also made the rear keyhole. It was pretty easy compared to other parts of the helmet.

Also I put into the helmet the front separator to widen the helmet's shape.

This is for today. See you next time with the rangefinder assembly.

looking at it all its a bit distorted from the curvature of the helmet but its pretty dang close

I hope that the final result (a 1:1 size helmet) will be more accurate than this prototype is.

I think you're doing an awesome job so far, but I think the visor is too squinty.

I guess the visor can be 'un-squinted' by pulling the cheek area down a little bit.

Thanks guys for the encouragement and thanks for any help with tips and errors you can offer.

Today I played a little with my ear templates and I managed to do a one piece lower left ear template. I guess I can do this with the other parts of the ears. This is a 1:1 size template, if not, please correct me by giving the correct size.

So, here it is.

dsc05354a.jpg dsc05355p.jpg dsc05356s.jpg dsc05357d.jpg

I moved the center part to the base part of the template. You will need to cut a little from some parts of the template (because of the cardboard thickness) to achieve a perfect flow of the ear.

Attachment corrected and moved to post No. 57

How in hockeysticks....this is just insanely dazzling. You know how to do like some crazy kind of 3D modeling or something? Probably totally off but hey, haha. ;-) Are you going to mold and cast and all that? Awesome man.

This is utterly amazing
You are a genius

Thanks, TreppFett! I'm not a genius, but I do my best.

Thanks a lot mhlayne! Let's just say that I use my imagination and make all kind of scenarios on how to do things simple but keeping a good finished product. As I said somewhere in this thread, I want to do a scratch build helmet from start to finish. And all the templates (including the ones to get the helmet form and those to do the paint and scratches) will be free to use from TDH (and only from TDH!). This will be my way to thank to this amazing forum for all help and info I got in the last months.

Today I made the remaining parts of the left ear. The system used is the same as for the lower left ear, a one piece template for each part.

dsc05359f.jpg dsc05360w.jpg dsc05363o.jpg dsc05362o.jpg dsc05365j.jpg dsc05364n.jpg dsc05366.jpg dsc05367fv.jpg

And here are the template for the left ear (print this using fit to page for an A4 paper size).

Very nice,
and the overall shape looks great ,
considering youve made the helmet out of thick guadge core flute card board youve done a great job,
Only thing that i can think of is did you get the scale of the right ear set up , if you were using the WOF templates that part is way to big , considering youve modifeid them i guess you propably changed this,
Keep up the good work , I look forward to seeing the 1-1 scale with the weathering actual weathering printed on

Thanks, jinto! I didn't used WOF's templates for the ear or any other part of the helmet. As I said before, I used reference images from the gallery to do a 100% scratch build helmet. And the ears are already on 1:1 scale.

Respect!
