    Rafalfett and Jayvee Help!

Ok, I know I've been a pest to you guys about asking for help with by ESB paint job, and I am sorry. I just want to make sure that I have all of the right info before I start buying paints. Should I go with enamel or acrylic? I have a list of Humbrol paints by their reference numbers and I have found a couple of websites that sell Humbrol paints. My problem is that they don't have all of the colors in the same type, most are acrylic, but there are a few that they only have in enamel. Will the paint be able to be used together since they are different types?

    I say enamel works best.

omnimodels.com has almost all the colors in matt enamel
    OmniModels Search Results

Whatever is missing, you can get Floquill directly from the testors site.
Testors » Floquil » Railroad Enamels » Paints

Im going to do my helmet soon as well so i got most of the paints ready to go. Just need to finish my commissions first.

    Hope i helped

Gday my good man. All my paints are enamels - i personally prefer the finish, even if clean up can be a little more time consuming. I try to not mix acrylics and enamels, as they certainly can react -particularly if acrylic is underneath enamels. All of the humbrol paints in my color listings are definately referring to the enamel version in the little metal tins. Humbrol do an acrylic range also, but at this stage, there are far less colours, and the enamels in my area anyway, are far more readily available. Hope that helps buddy, always happy to help out anytime you need to drop me a line

Thanks guys. I'm going totalk to my painter and see what the next step is. I have a feeling that I might have to go the commissioning route to get it done.

Hey mate, enamels are im my opinion the best bet to go with. You can get very close to the original colors, they are easy to use and easy to work with. They are a little more hassel in terms of cleaning your airbrush and brushes, but they are worth it.

If you worried about painting your helmet yourself, Ive done a full walk-through video tutorial on how to prep and then paint/finish a fett helmet,

    https://www.youtube.com/user/welshwarrior123/videos

They are not as hard as they look, just take your time and you will have a great fett helmet.
    Hope they help,

    Welsh

I told my painter about your videos, which are great. Thanks for making them.

I am going to buy all humbrol enamels becuase I can't seem to find a definative floquil color listing in the forums. I just hope the Humbrol list I found here will work. And Welsh, I told my painter about your videos and Im going to have them follow your lead. I watched most of them and you make it look really easy. Hopefully I will have the paints by next weekend and then all I have to do is install the visor and then let them go to town. I just hope it turns out ok, if not it looks like i'll be commishing someone to paint it. Would anybody take some Gentle Giant Bobas for trade maybe? (I have the one for my avatar pic, the boba with hic and the two stormies, and a Vader).

Thanks for that, I would be all set if I could find one that compared humbrol to floquil.

Terminal fettler uses all humbrols, and that was enough for me to go with those. He also has a list on his thread. I always liked his helmet paint ups. I links you to a site that carries all the humbrols in my first post in this thread

    Re: Rafalfett and Jayvee Help!

If you check out Rafs ESB stencils, they actually have a colour key on the PDF versions, and those colours are actually the Floquil colours that seem to be what most people are happy with to date. I know I definately went with Humbrol, as they looked very close on Terminal Fettlers list, and were much cheaper, and readily avail in my area. So the Humbrol paint list in my thread, is essentially TF's list to about 90%, with a couple of mixes or floquil colours added in. Good luck with it all brother!
