Progress Thread - two buckets (image intense)

So I started the mold for the mini. I have a lot of pics, but I am feeling lazy and only uploaded 2 for now, more will follow.

I couldn't find any burlap to reinforce my plaster, so I used some of the fiberglass mat and fiberglass cloth that I already have. Not the most economical choice, but it's what I had available.

Here is the dome on and registration groove built up too

Just have to lay the plaster on top then break the mold open and start pouring silicone. More to follow, maybe even by the end of today.

There are a lot more pics in my photobucket, knock yourself out if you want to look at them there.

And that's where it sits for now, I am ordering a 5 gallon pail of silicone in the morning, hope to have it before next weekend.

I do not know much about creating or molding, but it looks good. SD68 and you look to be doing a great job at crafting a helmet. Nice work.

Those are coming a long great! Love the molds, looks like you have done this type of thing once or twice  Matrix molds can be tricky, but you have done a beautiful job, can't wait to see what pops out of them.

Never done this kind of thing in my life. Watched the Gnomon sculpting videos that I borrowed from a buddy then kinda been improvising from there. Thank you though, wouldn't have been possible without your Templates Alan.

Got my silicone today, then finished pouring. This is where the 85% helmet mold sits now...

I am gonna leave it wet and let it cure over night then pour some polyurethane in the morning for my first test helmet.

Poured two layers this morning. I am gonna let it set then pour another layer maybe with some glass mat to help give it some rigidity. I know it's not the cleanest mold and far from perfect in detail. I do plan to refine the mold and eventually see how good I can get it.

Man that is looking great! Can't wait to see the first one out of the mold!. Well for a first timer it looks like you got the process nailed!

Please keep use posted. I love this kind of stuff.

I have a lot of cleaning up to do then some bondo work. I will repour the silicone in the future too. I am totally new with the polyurethane resin so I have a bit of a learning curve to overcome, but as requested, the first pics of the first pull.

Here is the hydrocal original I started with in comparison.

It's not the prettiest, but I feel good so far and I am not even close to done, still got the fullsized to finish, mold and casting. Back to work in the basement for me...
