hey guys i know this is probably the wrong way of going about things but i was wondering if anyone has attemted to modify a hasbro voice changer boba fett helmet so its more acurate? i know this sounds lazy but i picked one up cheap and thought that this would be a good jumping off point. i know the dimensions are all wrong with the visor being to wide etc etc but as a complete novice i need somewhere to start and being at the bottom of the world decent stuff to work with is a problem! any help would be greatly appreciated, such as how the hasbro helemt compares with a DP or a more accurate helmet in terms of size and dimensions so i have a comparison to work on. cheers guys!

Josh, I think there are a few people who have modified the Hasbro helmets. I resprayed one for my son, so the colours looked better but I am sure I've seen people go all out and modify these to fix the visor and fill all the seams so they look pretty good.

You may end up spending more on modifications than you would on a new DVH though but I know sometimes we have enough stuff lying around to do these things on the cheap. Search the boards for Hasbro and see what you can find. Otherwise, somebody might point you in the right direction.

As far as offending anybody, pffft, who cares? We all work within our own budgets mate, and your cheap Hasbro could end up looking better than some people's 'Deluxe' outfits. It just depends on you.

Well said bill. Simply go with whats avail and in your budget - particularly when its a new thing. You will soon find out if you want to take it further, or if you are happy with what you produce. The hasbro is actally far better than the don post in the fact that it is nice and sturdy - some bondo to fill gaps, shortening the gaps on the visor, and a full repaint can indeed give you a respectable looking first lid. There are several threads with hasbro mods, so check em out in the search menu. Good luck brother! :)

Hey no offence taken, I was gunna point you to my old thread but it looks like Superjedi already posted a link to the one I did. Ive also seen some awsome stuff done with the hasbros on the mando site, might be worth checking out if you really want to go all out with the hasbro. Good luck.

My 1st build, when I redeploy, is going to be a mod to a Hasbro helmet.
I picked up 4 of them 2 days before I left. Couldnt pass them up at $15 each (WALMART Clearance Isle).
Figured at least I could do something for the kids costumes while I look to get something else for me.

do you think a hasbro could pass thru the 501st? if properly done or do you think it wouldnt be accurate enough in the dimensions. i was looking at the mandalorians site and there some involved but pretty accurate looking mods on there. these 501st guys sound pretty strict though!

That's a 'how long is a piece of string' type of question Josh.

It all depends on how much you make it look like a regular Fett helmet. If you modify it and it looks good, I suppose it might pass (but I'm not one of the GMLs). If you mod it and it looks worse than it did when you started, then probably not.

I've seen modded helmets that I would pass. Again, it's not up to me or you though.

with the hasbro, it all boils down to this bro... it's your costume. If you like it , go for it! we all have to build within our limits, but in the end we are building our suits for us. Build it the way you like it! and by all means , make it something you will enjoy. Some folks can afford a 3,000 dollar fett. most of us can't, so I say go for it and make it yours! good luck!

Starting on mod this weekend if anyones interested on how it goes i can put up pics of the process. 1st stage.... Deconstruction!

I don't see how it could work for Boba Fett.

While the helmet can certainly be modded to make a cool looking custom Mandalorian, the proportions are too far off to really work as Boba Fett. The ear caps are far too wide, the keyslots in the back much too large, and the overall shape of the face is different.

By the time you modded it to be something I'd approve, you would have rebuilt most of the helmet.

I've seen a couple of projects where people have made very good Clone Wars style Deathwatch Mandalorians out of it. But, they did rebuild a lot of the helmet completely. New ear caps on both sides, radical changes to the face and back, etc...
