Preproduction 3 Helmet Photos now available!
I have but one question... who loves you?
I have been waiting for this moment for over 2 years. I have finally been given permission to make the images of the PP3 helmet available to you, our faithful members. Special thanks to Jason Eaton for making this happen! Without him we would be forever in the dark on this helmet.
I hope these images are put to good use and the information gleaned from them will be returned back to the board for others to profit from. While I have taken hundreds of photos at various Exhibits, I think these are some of the best I have ever seen and show detail in the helmet that no other photos have shown. Enjoy!
http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/reference/pp3/index.htm
As most of you know, to access this directory, you will need a user name and password. The user name is "tdhmember" (not your username but literally "tdhmember") and the password is "ilovetdh"
Note: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not try to go and download these all at once. Enjoy them but use them sparingly. We are already having problems with our hosting company and if the drain due to downloading adversly affects the board, I will have to take them offline. And yes, these will be made available on future versions of the Ref CD if I get the ok.

-
Re: Preproduction 3 Helmet Photos now available!
Very highly detailed pics Art! I also see another option for installing the visor...and the pic in the RF looks like it might be a scene from Lawrence of Arabia or something like that. Very nice, thanks Art!

Re: Preproduction 3 Helmet Photos now available!

It HAS been years! I am so glad to be able to get these out there because it leaves very little left that I have that hasn't been made public. My goal is to have NO "no share" stuff at all!
I appreciate the thanks guys but the real appreciation should be directed to Jason. Without him these pics wouldn't be available.

Re: Preproduction 3 Helmet Photos now available!
Well that was worth the wait!!!! WOW!!! Is it me, or does alot of the silver weathering look obviously topical???? And how about that yellow splatter job all over the bucket!!! They didn't even bother masking or removing the visor first!!! Thanx again for sharing these!!

Re: Preproduction 3 Helmet Photos now available!
Awesome, awesome pics, but one question, what is the pic in the rangefinder viewer???
-
Re: Preproduction 3 Helmet Photos now available!
It is a film cell, but no one has been able to positively ID what movie it came from. I have been told that the PP2 has a film cell in its rangfinder as well and the cell is from 2001. I have never been able to verify that.

Re: Preproduction 3 Helmet Photos now available!
Very Cool! Thanks to Jason and Art!

Re: Preproduction 3 Helmet Photos now available!
all right, next stop: the sandy helmet! wooHOOOO!!!!!
*edit* *** you guys are such teases. that's the sandy in the last two pics on page five isn't it?
-
Re: Preproduction 3 Helmet Photos now available!
The Sandy helmet is in there as well as the stunt helmets. Wish we had better documentation of the Sandy as we still don't have a good back shot. I would also love to get better documentation of the stunts (to help tie up some of the lineage with the Banzai helmet) and finally... where is the Eyes helmet?!? Makes me very sad because we know it wasn't repainted as the Sandy, RotJ or PP2... could it be the ESB or PP3? I don't think so... and we have never seen it in the archives... so where is it?

Re: Preproduction 3 Helmet Photos now available!
Yeah they tried to color match using Pantones. Should gone to Wal mart instead. Glad these are out now.

Re: Preproduction 3 Helmet Photos now available!
This is a silly question.
But it appears in: DSCN4339 that it shows the connection of the ear cap. And it looks like its not the standard piece configuration. It actually looks similar to the way they did the MR helmet ear piece.
Can someone explain what im seeing thats wrong?
Thanks
SR

Re: Preproduction 3 Helmet Photos now available!
Actually after looking at the photos, its clear that the ear caps do not connect using whats readily accepted in most of the helmet kits now.
I would copy and quote the photos, but im sure they are in that section for a reason.

i'm not seeing what you mean about the ear cap being different. my ms3 was made that way... the RF side cap is 3 parts. the lower piece, and then the 2 part upper, with the outer cap having a slight undercut.

Re: Preproduction 3 Helmet Photos now available!
If looked it over, and I think its my mistake. I couldnt see the seperation lines. Im still not sure how it all goes together, or if its made from multiple pieces of aluminum, but I had missed the straight on view that shows where the cover plate comes off.
Im looking at that picture on the rangefinder. Are you sure its a movie? And not a photo from Iran contra or soviets invading afganistan.

Looks to me like a lot of the mark detail was done that way, it's either lettering from a model kit, you know, the stuff you have to soak in warm water and slide on or Letraset.
It still exists nowadays but it was a big thing when I was a kid (that's late 70s early 80s, yes, I'm a relic :lol) all you had to do was rub your pencil over the sheet and the letters would come off, the crack was though that if you didn't rub correctly they would only stick to whatever you were rubbing it on and the rest would stay on the tracing paper, leaving letters similar to the ones on the helmet.
The other thing was they could scratch off easily too.
The final thing was that the sheets had the specific letters in a row, so I could see it was entirely possible that the bottom half of the right ear could have a set of letraset I's rubbed onto it, as they were already neatly spaced. Then they could have been scratched off with a needle.
Check out www.letraset.com, however I cannot tell the font used, possibly arial, but it's definitely sans serif.
