POP, Goes the Helmet!

TKOK

New Hunter
Oh, I seriously want to cry. So I had my ESB armor and helmet on my mannequin in my office. The mannequin doesn't have a head so I rigged a styrofoam head onto it, and it's done well for the last three months... until last night! From my bedroom, I hear a CRASH...BAM! Run into my office and see my bucket rolling around on my hardwood floor. The head came loose and dropped the bucket off of it, landing on its crown, it busted the fiberglass on top, busted off my range finder top and broke the finder top in two. I'm figuratively sick to my stomach because I know that replacing my bucket will cost major $$$$$$$$$.

I sanded away a 5" circle on the top and laid new fiberglass over it tonight to cover it and fix it. I know that I'll never be able to blend the paint job, so now I'm trying to figure out what I am going to do. I think my next move is to sell one of my Stormtrooper armors and use that cash to buy another helmet.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Super lame. Like GCNgamer128 said, post pics. I'd at least get some community feedback on repairs before getting a new one.

That really sucks & sorry to hear that happened but if the damage is only to the dome that can be repaired, sanded, & repainted without upsetting the rest of the helmet. Most people section the helmets when painting anyway so it wouldn't be all that bad to repaint the dome. So don't get too discouraged it is salvageable. Replacing the rangefinder isn't a big deal either. Some photos would help as well.

Sorry -- I thought I had posted pics with my submission! Here are the photos of the hack job I did to patch the hole. Now I don't know what to do. I don't know what version of bucket I have -- it's fiberglass is about the extent of what I know. I'm not as versed with my Boba Fett as I am with my TK armor collection.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thank you for helping me keep the faith! I posted pics below!

Unfortunately now you'll have to sand and bondo the dome, but it's not a big deal. Bondo where there's unevenness and sand after that to make it look smooth.

Yeah, wasn't really thinking about it, and did it on the outside (stupid I know) but I'm sanding it down and repainting it tonight.

It's certainly redeemable if you're prepared to put the work in. If I were in your position I'd do a total repaint. In my opinion you have to put in a lot of work anyway so you might as well do the whole thing rather than try to match the existing work.

Did you ever get this fixed up? I noticed that you glassed over the dent also. Trying to get that detail back will not be an easy task, but still not impossible. would love to know how this turned out
