Will it work for what exactly? Providing a textured pattern to a built in fluorescent ceiling light fixture? Yes.
Using it to build up helmets or armor? No. :)

If you're looking for sources for plain sheet styrene, try companies like Plastruct or Evergreen. Not sure what size sheets you can buy from them though.
