"Paint by numbers" Humbrol Visual Guide - ESB & ROTJ Helmet & ESB Armor

Just bought my paints for an ESB helmet. I think the color number for the orange stripes (that fade from yellow to orange) is actually 82, not 83.
holy moly you are right!... thanks for pointing that out!! i will fix it right away!

I'm hoping to paint an ESB helmet scheme soon so this thread is very useful. I'm UK based so I assume Humbrols are the best option?

I don't have access to an airbrush, can the broad areas of colour (dome etc) be brushed on and somehow sanded/polished down to give an even finish? Do any of the broad area Humbrol colours come in a spray can? Can airbrushing be done relatively cheaply and easily?

Thanks.

you can buy a fairly cheap airbrush "system" that runs on canned air.

Just remeber that you still have to thin the paint with thinner.

check out this video for general usage on this type of airbrush kit.

Awesome thread, wish I would have found it before I started my helmet, but it's bookmarked for my armor... Any chance of a jetpack rundown?

Don't Quote me on this, but i believe the entire helmet in this series was painted this way.

dude this is amazing !!! your videos are a godsend !

I want to order the humbrol paints in bulk, do you know how much i need of each colour please ?

do you also have a finalised list of colours that you used ?

Thanks

Unfortunately i cant take the credit for that series of videos they where made by Lewis-White-FX.
I think he has a account here too, but cant remember his user name :)

As for the amount of paint you need, i seem to remember using around 2 tins of the green 78, silver 11 and grey 79 .
I would order 3 tins of the major colors and then 2 of the minor to be on the safe side.

It's welshwarrior123.

Personally I think you only need one tin even for the major colours because they go a long way when thinned but two tins for the majors colours might be best first time around.

Can someone help me with the colour guide ?

I have found 3 verions

ROTJ-PBNv1.png
ROTJ-PBN-Wip2.png

What is the correct version or the easier version to work with ?

The V1 (the one on the fist page is always the newest) is the most up to date one that i have posted.

I am in the middle of painting my ESb Fett armor and there is one thing that just doesn't seem right to me. Green #78 is a pretty light green, but all the images show it being used as the darker green weathering shading. here are some green samples I did and Green 78 just seems way too light. the green at the top is a random rattle can I had. just my 2 cents. anyone had any luck with another humbrol green?

You can't really tell by looking at each color individually. The way the colors interact with each other is the key. The #78 looks light but as the other colors come into play it will begin to look right. You have to trust the process.
